Pros: They were closed.
Cons: At the time I made the reservation, the front desk was closed. I was not able to get the rental car. I was stuck at the airport at 11 o'clock at night.

Easy and quick
Pros: The agent was nice and whipped through the paperwork. The car was fine and very clean. The price was half of what other companies had wanted.
Cons: Only negative was it would have been nice if someone met me at the car return to give me receipt instead of having to back inside the building and wait in line to get receipt

Pros: Agent Elisha was super friendly and even though I was in a hurry, I took some extra time to chat with her since she was so nice! No one else was in line despite a long line next door at hertz...almost felt bad i was in and out with my rental in 5 minutes while they all just stood there. Cheapest rental available with no strings attatched. Didnt get nickle and dimed and she even gave me a tip on local tolls.

Cons: I went to the counter at Boston, Logan at 11:40 pm and waited behind a woman and her young kid. The guy next door at the Avis or Budget counter asked if we were there for Payless and laughed at the fact we were waiting. He explained that they close at 11 pm and do this all the time to people. Here's the kicker - I had called the day before and asked them if they would be open when I arrived since I knew it would be late. The man that answered the phone swore it would be no problem and that I would have a way to get a car. So, instead, no car and had to take a $70 uber to my destination.

Pros: it was speedy and a good price.
Cons: I asked for an intermediate car (e.g. Toyota Corolla) . At the counter they said the had a Mazda "something" that was equivalent. I don't know care models well so I trusted the clerk but the car was more like an Economy car so not big enough. Had no time to go back to the counter to get it changed. This caused some hassle in my trip, but I managed. Surely I won't allow this to happen again.

Pros: No line even on Friday night of Labor Day weekend. Expedited line for getting out of the rental lot at Logan. Great car for our needs. Would definitely rent from Payless again.

Worst car rental experience ever! Do NOT rent from
Cons: Below is our nightmare story of renting from Payless. Short version: In the future, I would rather pay 100$ more than renting from this place ever again. The savings are not worth the stress/awful experience! We rented a car for Thursday night 11pm. When realizing that they close at 11pm, we called Payless at Boston Logan directly to let them know that we would be there a few minutes after 11pm (our flight got in at 10:40pm). First, reaching them took close to 15 tries before someone answered the phone. But they assured us that it would be no problem to pick up the car a few minutes after 11pm. When we got there on Thursday at 11:10pm sharp the place was closed. No sign, no number to call, nothing. The official Payless hotline closes at 10pm. We had to rent another car for a night at a much higher price! When we got back the next morning to finally pick up our car, there was a 45-min wait and then the service was the worst. No apologies, nothing to try to accommodate for the major inconveniences we had. All in all it took 1.5 hours to get the car and much debate to get a small refund. Staff and especially managers did not seem to know what they are doing (i.e. how to operate their own systems) and were seriously the worst in customer service I have ever experienced!

I'm still in shock...
Pros: The car was extremely comfortable and economic, and for the price I paid I can't complain.
Cons: I called my bank and asked about car rentals and using my car with a Mastercard logo, they said it works just like a credit card, so there should be no problems. As I get to the rental place, they tell me that because it's a debit card, they have to do a credit check, they dont give you the option of soft pulling or anything like that, they just tell you if yo want to rent their cars with a "debit card" they have to do a credit check, which of course lowers your credit score if you are constantly renting vehicles and they are constantly checking your score. They need to get it together fast. Also upon returning the car I was told that I had to write the millage on the contract and leave the contract at the rental desk because the payless desk was not open for buisness.

Good car, easy drop off, poor customer service
Pros: I really enjoyed the actual car and didn't have to wait long in line. Also, the drop off was very easy.
Cons: The woman who helped us check the car our seemed very annoyed right from the get go. I gave her my credit/debit card (which it turns out did not work to pay which is also something they may want to let people know before renting.) and she seemed very upset when I gave it to her.

Pros: Originally, the rate
Cons: If your flight is delayed flying into Boston Logan Airport, and you wait in line at the rental car center for 30 minutes, once you make it to the counter, the workers then inform you that even though the Payless sign is lit, they actually close at 11:00 pm, and they will not rent you a car. There is no plan B. Payless doesn't have an agreement with the other carriers. You are simply screwed. The worker suggested that I come back in the morning. So I had to rent from a new carrier, 'full fare, last minute rates'. This was the absolutely worst renatal car experience that I have ever had. Never again. Never Payless.

Cons: Customer service making jokes because I got there 15 minutes late. When the issue was the flight delay. Agent was more worrying about going home than the customers in line.

Cons: The wait for a car we had reserved was 1 hour 45 minutes. When we finally got to the desk we couldn't get the SUV we had reserved and they tried to give us a compact car. They finally relented and gave us a Ford Fusion. There was nobody on duty when we returned the car. Directions for the return were very poorly marked. Would never rent a car out of Logan again.

Cons: When I arrived at the airport the line took two hours to get to the front there was only one person working. When I finally got there I asked him if he was shorthanded he replied do you think with an attitude. The car they had reserved for me was "a little dirty " I was forced to get another type of vehicle it was knowing in the lot attending the cars could not find it. People who were turning cause were walking into the line because no one was outside to take that car. Very unorganized very unprofessional worst car rental experience

Hours need to be extended.
Cons: Payless was only open from 6 am to 11 pm in the Boston Logan Airport. All other car rental facilities were open beyond these hours. Our flight got in late and we could not rent the car we had booked. Had to spend extra money for a taxi to the hotel and find a different car rental.

Pay less, but pay in time
Cons: We had to wait over an hour to pick up our car because only one worker was at the desk. It's a holiday weekend so I wasn't surprised it took so long, but it was painful to watch >50 people pick up their cars at Avis while waiting to pick up ours. The prices were also totally unreasonable for 3 days ($380).

Pros: After waiting 1 hour in line just to pick up the rental I reserved, I ended up having to abandon the reservation and wait another 30 minutes in line for an Avis rental. After I received my Avis rental, I noticed that the person ahead of me in the Payless line was still waiting!!!!!
Cons: Don't use them! Waste of time.

Overall was good
Pros: It was a good price and a nice clean car. The pick up and drop off was easy and quick. My only complaint is they do try and nickel and dime you on every little extra. I was told that I couldn't pay cash for tolls leaving the Boston airport so they force you to rent the toll tag on top of paying all the toll charges.

Rates were not what was quoted!
Cons: Kayak promised a rate of $39 per day for this car - well that was before all the fees, taxes, etc. It came to twice that. First car that was provided to us smelled like cigarette smoke. It took additional time to go back and get a car that was clean, which of course ate into our rental time (we were only renting for 24 hours) Will not use payless again. Too many hidden fees. I see that other reviewers have had the same problem.

No one home!
Cons: Arrived late into Boston Logan. Called Payless to let them know I would be arriving right at closing time, and was told to contact the station directly. I did and was put through to a voicemail box that was full. I actually arrived at the counter 2 minutes prior to closing and they were closed up already. There was another Payless customer there when I showed up and she also was surprised they were closed early. Price is good, service not so much...

Pros: The pickup and drop off processes were quick and smooth, and the requested vehicle was avaiablw.
Cons: The seats were stained, the dashboard was dirty, the exterior was scratched and dented and the inside, including the trunk, reeked of cigarette smoke.

Pros: The agent was extremely helpful and friendly. I have never had better service with a rental car agent!!! Her name was Mariana, I believe. Loved her!
Cons: Called the 800# for customer service and got what I thought was a little bit of attitude and a lack of willingness to help me. I got that help at the counter instead. Would have preferred to get the help over the phone with customer service, as it was inconvenient to visit the counter. But again, the folks at the counter were infinitely more helpful.

Pros: decent car. minimal service
Cons: person working the counter at Boston- Logan was a trainee and the car pick up took about 20 minutes. when we got to the car, there were a half dozen half-eaten chicken nuggets scattered on the back window ledge. how do you miss something like that? you have to wonder if the car has been properly serviced.

Pre-Pay fuel is not mandatory- didn't have time to

Cons: I rent a lot of cars per year. I had never rented from Pay-less before but it was last minute and they were the only company with full- size cars. I took the bait. I approached the rental counter in Boston-Logan to check- in and grab my car. The girl behind the counter was- I assumed- having a bad day, she was not very pleasant but I didn't care too much because I was in a rush. Toward the end of the process she begins telling me about the "recommended insurance"- I asked how much per day? She told me that it was $52. I decline the"recommended" and ask for "basic" and she tells me the basic is $42 per day. I again decline. I ask her if they have the insurance for $20 and she says, no. I decline all insurance and she asks me who my personal insurance is with and that I'll need to pay a lot of money out-of- pocket if I get into an accident- I thanked her and declined all insurance again. We now move to pre-pay fuel- I told her that I wouldn't need pre-pay and that I will bring it back full. She tells me that pre-pay fuel is mandatory. I question how it's mandatory and she tells me that I just need to bring back receipts from the gas that I get and they will credit it toward the account at the end. I am told again that it's mandatory and that its Payless policy. I ask for a manager but she tells me that no-one is around. I'm getting pre-pay fuel because there is no manager around 99% certain that I am getting ripped off. And the "mandatory policy" seems final. I sign the papers because I'm running late and I get the car. When I returned the car- I told the return lady the story and she fixed the "pre-pay" fuel. The return lady said that it happens "all the time" because the people at the check-in desk only get commission if they get me to get something additional. This was my first and last rental from Payless. Consider yourself warned.

Fees and long wait times
Cons: They had only one agent as a result they had the longest line of all the agencies at the airport. It took much much longer to get out of the car rental place. Also they make up for their lower costs with the extra fees. You really need to be adamant that you don't want gas or insurance, as they automatically opt you in. I was told I would have the prepaid fuel charge taken off if I showed a receipt for filling up the tank when I got back. However that didn't happen and I had to fight with Customer Service to get my $30 back. Payless did resolve the issue and refunded my money. However the amount of time and stress to do it didn't warrant the savings.

Pros: Nothing about Payless car rental is worth writing about. Usually when I get screwed I get a kiss.
Cons: I was over charged $100 for the Payless car rental. We had to wait an hour for Payless car rental to open. The agent was rude. The car was dirty and the fuel tank was not full at pickup.

Easy & Affordable
Pros: Very easy process to pick-up car and the car itself was spotless. Most affordable option there is.
Cons: Due to the cheaper pricing, Payless had the longest line at Boston Logan (by 5-6 people at least). Unfortunately, they usually seemed to only staff one person to handle the long lines.

Pros: The car ran well. The clerk at the front desk was very kind and extremely helpful on check-in.
Cons: I had to go search for my own car in the lot. The first car I got was filthy and smelled like smoke. The second was decently clean. On return of the car, no one was available. I was late for a flight and had to go to the front desk and wait in line to give them my return mileage, making me even more late.

Self Serve Car Rental?
Pros: The few folks working at PayLess were very nice and working very hard, there were just too few of them. The car ran well.
Cons: Bait and switch on the rental car - got "upgraded" to a vehicle I didn't want. Because of understaffing, it took an hour in line to get the car. When returning the car, there was nobody to check folks out - cars backed up out of the entrance. Customers didn't know what to do as there was literally nobody in the lot to help. We actually needed to ask people working at Avis what we should do and they told us to go in to the rental counter (where there was 1 person working) to check the car back in. Anyone with a tight schedule would have had a challenge making their flights.

Pick up wait time unacceptable
Pros: The car was nice and very clean
Cons: We waited at Logan for an hour and a half to get a car. The person behind the counter shared that there were only 4 total employees (including the manager) at that location and that it was unlikely that one of them would be able to help customers at the desk. While some wait was expected, an hour and a half is far too long.

Cons: There were 15 people in line and one agent working on a Saturday morning. We waited over an hour to get our car. Pretty much all the other rental car agencies there had multiple people working and therefore lines which actually moved. Our line literally had at least three people who left line to go over to a different agency.
