FAQs - booking Mauritius flights

  • Is there a private place where I can pray at Plaisance Airport?

Yes, if you need to pray when you land at Plaisance Airport, you can get a conducive atmosphere and privacy in the prayer room at the departure hall, boarding side just next to gate 22. Here, you can pray and meditate in a quiet place despite the chaos of the busy airport.

  • I am flying to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport. Will I find transport from here to the city?

Yes, you will. Despite having numerous islands, the country has an elaborate transport system. For example, you can conveniently catch a taxi from the airport to different hotels and restaurants in Mauritius. Additionally, three bus services ply the SSR route daily. The bus ride is quite budget-friendly, as you will be charged around 30 Mauritian Rupees (close to $1).

  • Is there a place I can freshen up after landing in Mauritius?

Yes, after your long flight, you can freshen up with a shower at one of the lounges in Plaisance Airport before heading out. These include Salon Nenuphar at the new terminal building opposite Boarding Gate 19 and Amedee Maingard Lounge at the airside. You can pay at the door to access both lounges if you do not have premium membership.

  • Which Airport should I fly to if I want to visit the Black River Gorges National Park?

Located in the hilly southwest part of the country, the national park is a popular tourist attraction. If the park is among your top priority visits, then it would be best if you booked a flight to Beckley (BKW) Airport. This is because of its proximity to the park, with just 8.3 miles separating the two.

  • Which Airport is close to the Ile aux Cerfs?

The closest airport to the Ile aux Cerfs is the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport (MRU); it is just 13 miles away. From here, you can take a taxi or use the public transport system. The good thing about these public transport systems is that they are cheaper, thus coming in handy for people traveling under a tight budget.

  • Where can I sleep at Plaisance Airport if my flight arrives late?

Unfortunately, there are no sleeping pods or onsite hotels at Plaisance Airport to accommodate you if you arrive in Mauritius too late. However, you can settle for one of the hotels near the airport for some rest before daybreak. The nearest hotel is Holiday Inn Mauritius Airport, 0.4 miles from the terminal. It has free airport shuttles on request.

  • What airport should I land in when I want to visit Rodrigues Island?

If you want to visit Rodrigues Island, you can take a flight from Plaisance Airport to Sir Gaetan Duval Airport (RRG). The airport is about 6 miles from the city center. The easiest way to get to the city center from the airport is by taxi or a rental car.

  • How do I get to the city center from the airport?

Mauritius has an elaborate transport system, meaning that you won’t have a hard time moving from one point to another. For example, if you are arriving at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU), you can arrange for a private airport transfer from the airport to your place of residence. For those looking for cheaper options, Mauritius has public transport options such as buses and coaches. For the buses, the bus stop is situated within the airport car parks. Other forms of transfer include commercial vans, standard sedans, and car rentals. Lastly, if you want to visit multiple places within a limited space of time, you can still opt for flights within the country. Even though there aren’t many, the airports in Mauritius are quite effective even for domestic flights. For taxis, most are available outside the terminal buildings and airports at all times. However, to be on the safe side, it would be best if you agreed on a price prior to boarding the taxi.

  • Can I rent a car from Plaisance Airport?

Yes, you can rent a car from Plaisance Airport. The rental car agencies including SIXT, ADA, First, Europcar, Dollar, Hertz, and Budget are outside the terminal building behind the parking lot as you exit the airport to your left. To rent a car, you should be at least 21 years old and have a valid driving license.

  • Can I take a bus from Sir Gaetan Duval Airport to the city center?

Yes, there is a public bus stand outside the terminal building near Plaine Corail Police Station at Sir Gaetan Duval Airport. The first bus leaves the airport for Port Mathurin, the capital, at 6 am while the last one leaves at 4:30 pm. The bus ride takes about thirty minutes with several stops.

I have a very good experience flighting with emirates. All my expectations were fit well.

Emirates is good airlines. But there plane seats were very small and congested. Need to little good and big seats in economy class.

Meals were delicious, however I got hungry between dinner and breakfast.

Very good!! If at all, the business class chair/bed was bit small!! It’s because of older plane- as was told!

Very good ..nice comfort..crew service was good..and no delays in time ..they always on time..

We did not fly and our agent has been uncilling and uncooperative to help us rebook flight. We will never use Kayak ever again to book our flights, and we will let our network of friends know that using Kayak is equal to losing $$$$$.

The experience of the flight. The food options have definitely gone down

I am vegan. The food was balanced, tasty and enough. I enjoyed the ride. The crew was very friendly and went out of their way to please the passengers.

Food service must be faster and make vegetarian food in good quality

On time take off and early arrival, what else can one want

They lost my baggage and I still have not got it back. Disgrace

They lost my lauggage and I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT. NO ONE IS HELPING! PLEASE HELP FIND MY LOST LAUGGAGE

Extremely poor. First - and oddly enough, Air France denied access to the Business Class lounge at CDG to all of us - although we were all flying Business Class. It is amazing that an airline denies lounge access to its passengers flying on business and paying several thousand dollars each ticket. Second, the food on Business Class on absolutely horrible. Air France must have made an effort to prepare bad tasting dishes (not even the ice cream was good). Third, the cabin temperature was too hot and although we complained many times, it never got cooler.

A disaster. Air France is a real joke. They overcharge us customers for absolutely nothing. Service was very poor, food was mediocre, entertainment non existent, etc. We paid thousands of dollars for our business class tickets and then we were told in Paris we could not access its lounge. Really Air France ? Congratulations on irritating your customers to the sky high level and ensuring we will do everything in our power to discourage others to travel with you.

They again did not offer any functioning WiFi in the transatlantic crossing.

The first half from DC to Paris was very good and the staff were very helpful and humble BUT flight from Paris to Mumbai was sad. 1) it was packed. 2) no space on head compartment 3) crews were unresponsive to the calls 4) one crew member literally banged the bottle of water after giving me glass of water. A little water splashed on me and she was unapologetic 5) with so many hours of flight, little leg space should be taken care else don’t fill your airline till brim which affects your crew and they remove anger on us. 6) huge line for washrooms. 7) 2nd half journey was pathetic

Flight was late over a hour just like the first one. WiFi was down.

I paid 3 this and dollars for two tickets. No food, minimum drink, confused service and very uncomfortable sear. There was zero difference between busy ness and tourist class. I received a pathetic apology

Good. Food items are ok but not really healthy (no protein for the vegetarian option, just a total of 2 gr total) so not fulfilling. Also, no airline is educating passengers to behave and have common sense: let the one sitting by the window pass first, leave toilets clean after use, etc. Humanity is just getting rude and more disgusting by the day and without education or enforced common sense no

The check in was horrible. I stood in line for 1 hour to check in with an Air France ticket. Then I was told I had to go to Delta counter onstead to check in instead. It made no sense.

Stale, bad and limited food, drink options. Entertainment system was broken, old and had barely any latest contents.

Love that they had a bassinet for our child during the flight. Thank you for that big time.

We are thankful for the useful gifts provided by the airline. The entertainment and crew were also very good

The flight encountered weather turbulences and it was scary at times but the pilot was outstanding! The food is outstanding! The crew was great. Only thing is the flight path map could be better (Reference: Emirates) Also would be nice to have more choice of soft drinks during the flight since it is a long flight. If the crews coming around with water instead of us going to the crew area asking.

Amazing, great airlines to go in business class. Hospitality is amazing. Food is great and lounge in Istanbul is at another level.

Overall it was a pretty good experience until I arrived in Accra and my suitcase was left in turkey.

My experience with Turkish airlines has been pretty good. I connected from Istanbul to Tirana Albania. One of my luggage’s didn’t come. Very disappointed with that, we had our year old grandson with us! Babiest things were in that bag . Hopefully I get the bag tomorrow or next day !

Awful. They cancelled my seats and demanded $1360 to rebook me

United failed me in cancelling flight to Chicago. Then put me on American Airlines standby to Miami for onward connection to RMO via IST. Standby failed. They looked me for Sunday morning 24 hours late at this point). Made it to Miami but Turkish airlines cancelled my seats and demanded $1360 to rebook the flights for the following day ! I went to United, spent two hours negotiating with Mr Ruis ? Who said he could do anything for me as he could fix problems that United caused in Miami. He suggested I call the 800 number. When I managed to.get through on my 6th call, I was on hold 2 hours and 30 minutes waiting for an agent when the call was cut off by United phone system. I went back to American. At last a lady , who had zero responsibility in this fiasco, helped me to find a replacement flight that night with Polish airlines to RMO through Warsaw at a cost of $968 including bag charge. I booked it with only a few hours to spare. The lady at American helped to recover and redirect my checked suitcase that had arrived in Miami a day earlier United customer service were awful. United partner Turkish airlines were horrendous and took zero responsibility. I ended up being late to my appointment overseas by 45 hours with zero compensation, no food vouchers, no replacement flights until I found one and paid for it myself. I reporting the entire fiasco to the secretary of state for Tennessee for law violations and refusal to remedy and compensate. I now need help to extend the trip by two days but United are not responding to communications

I was flying with Turkish Airlines from Tashkent to Dallas and from Dallas to Tashkent. In both directions the flights were late. I missed my connecting flight from Istanbul to Dallas in Istanbul airport because of that. That led to a no show case with a rental company in Dallas and I lost 460 US dollars. On the way from Dallas to Tashkent with a layover in Istanbul the plane was also late and I almost missed my connecting flight to Tashkent. Then my bag did not arrive with the same plane and only on the next morning flight from Istanbul. I was about to leave Tashkent the same day to Astana in Kazakhstan and then from there for work in Saudi Arabia. Luckily I had an excess in time before the next flight and I manage to get my bag back. Otherwise I would have missed 3 flights automatically because I couldn't travel for work without my bag and all valuables in it. So, overall, very bad experience with Turkish Airlines. Will never use these airlines again.

We were delayed about 5 hours each way from JFK to Nairobi. On the way out, we sat on the tarmac for 5 hours making for almost 20 hours on the plane. And the seats are so uncomfortable. My bottom has never been so sore on a long flight before. Bring a pad if you can. On the return, we were delayed 5 hours in the airport. It was reported as a 3 hour delay on the board and website but at the gate it was 5 hours. So, we waited with 3 kids in the airport when we could have been at the hotel resting instead. The flight was completely full probably due to the cancelled flight the night before. I wonder if the airline is in such shambles because of their possible impending bankruptcy. The staff were pleasant and the vegan meals we requested were impressive for an airplane tv dinner style tray.

Service was good, but I lost my baggage. There should be more accountability to passengers, and more concern to help find lost baggage.

Was too pissed about my luggage not being with me even though they assured me at the gate it was to recall any other problems. Planes on the inside are in terrible shape. Thank goodness the engines seem to run okay.

Terrible. Flew from Rwanda to Nairobi for transfer then on to Madagascar. Kenya Airways does not like to park at a gate. They park on the outskirts requiring a bus shuttle. That part is okay, but the bus drops you off outside of security. If I did not skip to the front of the line with my remaining half hour connection, I would have missed my flight. Complete security check plus taking off of shoes had to be completed (again). I made it to Madagascar, but my checked bag decided to take a trip to Dubai. I know tag on luggage was to Madagascar. No one can figure out how it made it to Dubai, except for incompetence. Even though I knew it was in Dubai, they would not allow a tracking to be done until Kenya Airways had the opportunity to get it on the next flight to Madagascar. Did not happen of course! I took 3 flights with Kenya Airways during this journey. Everyone of them had something go wrong. Please look elsewhere for another airline which I will be doing in the future.

Terrible. 6 hours late and zero urgency after the fact. Took over an hour to board and then an hour plus on the runway.

Seats were great. Business class service has been cut entirely, not even a water handed out

Excellent crew. Three problems need to be taken care of: 1. Lack of wi-fi during the flight. This prevents busy traveller's from working while onboard. 2. Why there were two very-slow security check points was more punishment that necessary. Went through thorough security at transit area, the an even slower one at Gare 19!!!! Why passports needed to be checked st least 5 times by 5 different people makes no sense. Additionally, passengers were crammed like sardines in a boarding area with no charging ports that work!! This was a boarding nightmare. 3. During my flight (seat 27C) the headset socket did not work. Watched one movie, but very difficult because of that. Had to keep my fingers on the socket for it to work!

Food was awful and the seats were bad. No privacy in business class with the seat next to someone. 15 hours without WiFi!!!

Food was awful and the seats were bad. No privacy in business class with the seat next to someone.

Staff and service on board is always exemplary. Food however could be better.

I missed my flight because previous flights came in late. Customer service hard to find and could not reschedule for the same day. Many people appeared to be behind the customer service counter, but only one or two willing to speak to the public. No offer to find alternatives My experience frustrating Very bad

Lufthansa give one a safe and seamless experience from check-in to baggage pickup

Flight from Washington to Munich it was disappointing. I do not get the seat for what i pay. And the crew were rude with people which speaks other languages than german!

Seats are too close together, there is not enough legroom. Food was pretty bad. TV didn’t work for more than half the flight which was annoying. Crew was annoyed that I complained about the TV they shut down the system and it restarted but then froze again. Asked them again but they were annoyed only to shut it down again it worked for two hours then froze again.

Plane was delayed about an hour but nice crew and service

Email noting gate change was good. Very bad: credit card machine broke down to charge for a checked bag. Lady at the counter read my credit card number OVER THE PHONE to a woman in Germany. Very insecure!!

Well,I miss a flight to Stl with United, they send me to Stl with a different airline, but same day, which was great

Be on time. Constant delays, missed connections. No excuses. Weather was not an issue

Solid old-school airline, comfortable, efficient and pleasant. It's the small things like nice blankets, good legroom and complementary mixed drinks, even in economy class. Can recommend!

I am deeply disappointed with Lufthansa’s treatment of my elderly parents during their recent flight. They were supposed to receive assistance with wheelchair service, but the experience was nothing short of a nightmare. Upon arriving at the airport, my parents were left stranded and confused, with no staff available to guide them. Despite being promised help, they were ignored by the ground staff, who were not only indifferent but also incredibly rude. To make matters worse, some of the employees made racist comments, which is absolutely unacceptable especially for passengers with special needs. We will never fly Lufthansa again and urge others to reconsider if they need assistance. My parents were left to navigate a busy airport on their own, which is both dangerous and stressful for elderly passengers with limited mobility. This level of neglect is inexcusable, especially from an airline that claims to prioritize passenger safety and comfort.
