Pros: great car

Cons: I booked my rental car online, but when I went to pick it up, the rental office had no record of the booking. So I didn't get the car at the price I was quoted, but had to pay extra as a walk-in booking.

pick up and drop off
Pros: The power outlets in my first car didn't work. I returned the car to the airport where the agent gave me a new car. No Problem. I later notice the new car had a bruise on the passenger door. Fearing the worst, I pointed out the damage on check in. The agent stated he was aware of the strawberry on the door. I'll work with Payless again

Pros: Reasonable price, super easy in-terminal pickup and return, good sized car
Cons: The car smelled like it had been smoked in, no front USB port (there was one in the back, but whyyyy no front?), floor mats somewhat worn.

Roadside Service Protection Scam
Cons: They said "all" contracts at the Austin Bergstrom location had Roadside Service Protection and there was nothing they could do about it. That is flat out fraud. It is an optional purchase that they made mandatory. I have a letter going to the corporate office reporting this scam and demanding a refund for the charge.

Hidden costs that Kayk doesn't show and Payless do
Pros: The pickup process was quick and convenient. The car was quite adequate.
Cons: The prepaid price on Kayak said it was the total price. I declined all optional services and understood that the price I prepaid on Kayak was the final price. When I returned the car, Payless had added a $6/day charge for roadside assistance and told me that the charge was included in all rentals. The person checking me out had not mentioned this charge at all.

Nickel and Dime Practices with no concern for cust
Pros: car was decent. smelled a bit like smoke, but it was 11pm when I picked it up and wasn't going to argue.
Cons: They are not clear with the contract and added a charge I verbally declined. NO ONE at the desk can do anything so you have to call and then once you call you get logged in as a "complaint". The person you speak to can't do anything either. You have to wait for the ticket item to show up in your email. You then receive an email that it is being looked into and a ticket number has been assigned and then you get a second suggesting they made no mistake and cannot refund your $. There is no person to person so it's easy to decline your request for the removal of the sham of a charge they levied without clear direction. Shady.... all of it. It was only $68, but that adds up and it would appear this is part of their profitability practice. Make them call... which many won't. Then make them email and then say "no". Dodgy practice with little to NO customer service or concern. I will NEVER rent from Payless again

CHARGED FOR SERVICES i DID NOT REQUEST OR AUTHORIZ
Cons: HAD A CONFIRMED RESERVATION AND AN AGREED TO PRICE. DROP OFF WAS CLOSED WHEN I RETURNED CAR. NEVER RECEIVED AN INVOICE VIA EMAIL. NOTICED ON MY CREDIT CARD THAT THE CHARGES WERE $71.05 OVER WHAT OUR CONTRACT STATED. HAD TO REQUEST A COPY OF THE INVOICE TO SEE WHY THE CHARGES WERE DIFFERENT. WHEN RECEIVED THE INVOICE I SEE THEY CHARGED FOR DAILY LIABILITY INSURANCE I NEVER REQUESTED OR AUTHORIZED. CALLED THEM AND DISCUSSED - STILL HAVE NOT SEEN REFUND - IT HAS BEEN 3 WEEKS!!!

Watch out for the hidden fee!!!!!!!
Cons: When I returned the car they tacked on a $35+ fee for RSP. The person checking in my car explained this was for the Roadside Service Program, that the other rental companies do not charge this fee, people get angry, he could not take it off but to go to the counter to talk to them about taking if off. I drove the car for 84 miles and had never asked for or agreed to their roadside service program - why would I do that??? Person at counter said he could not take care of it because he did not have authority but took my information and would have his manager call me. Big surprise - no call. So now I have to challenge the charge on my credit card. Next stop - the State Attorney General's Office. In the meantime, do NOT rent from Payless unless you like hidden charges.

Penalized for being late at an airport
Cons: Employee told me that because I arrived late and there remained only larger vehicles, I had to pay a higher rate. It wasn't too much more, but since I hadn't pre-paid, I had no other alternatives. Another employee said that sounded strange, but I had no time to go back to argue this. I feel that I was taken advantage of.

Waited 2 hours for vehicle to be cleaned...
Cons: The pick-up and drop of procedure were terrible. I requested to pick-up at 5pm but wasn't able to drive away until just before 7pm. When i went to return no one was present at the booth which added time to the drop off as i had to check in at the counter downstairs to give them vehicle mileage and fuel tank level.

Pros: The value for the money was good, especially given that I booked a bit too close to the travel dates. It was fairly easy to pick up and drop off the car, and the car performed well for my 2 week trip.
Cons: The dings and marks on the car were not pre-marked on the sheet as I picked up my car; if I hadn't caught those damaged spots, I'm concerned that I may have been charged for them in spite of not causing them. Having it pre-marked would be more reassuring. Also, not having to pre-pay for gas at the start and instead having it charged at the end if I don't fill up would make the customer experience better.

Added Extra Fee
Pros: Overall the car was fine but the check-in and check-out process for inspecting the car was lackadaisical. They also added aded a road side assistance charge without explaining that it at all. If they did I would have declined it as I already have that with my insurance.

Pros: The car was nice, drove well and had all the amenities needed.
Cons: The attendant in Austin didn't make it clear that I would be paying the entire gas tank when I returned the vehicle needing gas. She made me aware of the gas rate/gallon and said it was cheaper than the gas in the community. But what she didn't tell me was that I would have to pay for the entire gas tank as if it was empty should I choose to deliver the car needing gas. I didn't appreciate this since I returned the car with probably a half a tank remaining. I felt mislead.

Pros: Car was fine
Cons: Had contracted price. Called phone # supplied by Kayak and left message that I was delayed in airport and wouldn't be able to pick up until next morning. When I picked up they said contract was cancelled because I didn't pick it up and now the rate would be several times the price that I had contracted.

Good location but understaffed.
Pros: Clean car, close to kiosk. Good location across from terminal with no need for a shuttle (like all rental companies).
Cons: Understaffed. No-one at main kiosk. Was sent upstairs to 3rd floor. Person up there was polite but unable to process my reservation. We both had to go back downstairs to process me. Same at drop off, no-one was at the drop-off location, but a sign told me what to do.

Pros: Car was good
Cons: They overcharged me for 167$. I only accidenty saw it on my bill and it took me 30 min to get rid of it - almost missed my flight.

Pros: They guy who picked me up was pretty nice.
Cons: I reserved a mid size and when they picked me up they informed me that all they had was a compact. I was stuck, as they were the only car place open at that hour. They didn't even discount the rate for me, it was very disappointing.

Pros: Price, car worked really well for needs, great service.
Cons: Marking up existing damage to the car with a highlighter and then giving me a copy without the markup for me to verify with the car. Seems like a recipe for insurance/damage fraud although I did not seem to have any problems.

Cons: When we arrived at the airport, they were closed, that was about 1900. I will never consider using Payless again, and I will make sure everyone in the military is aware of their service (or lack there of).

Cons: 1) The staff person at the counter repeatedly tried to bait-and-switch me from a car to an SUV at 50% greater cost. She would not give up, saying that they were short of the cars, but had plenty of the SUVs. In fact there were numerous identical cars (down to the color) in the lot. 2) The scratch and dent form was not filled out. The Payless attendant refused to fill it out, and told me to have the exit attendant fill it out. The exit attendant was bemused when I told him what the Payless attendant told me to do. He did so with some bewildered cheer. 3) Both the counter and the lot were located at the furthest and most inconvenient locations among the rental agencies. 4) I was promised a Ford Focus with the reservation, but was given a Chevy Impala. 5) The staff were generally colorless and indifferent -- except for the initial agent who was more simply antagonizing.

Pros: Long line at pick-up, couldn't hear the clerk and thus got charged an extra $30 for roadside assistance (which I already have through AAA).

Horrible roadside assistance! Avoid Payless
Pros: Car in good working order, comfortable and well maintained
Cons: Worst experience dealing with roadside assistance. I damaged the car hitting something in the road. 100% my fault. Called at 8pm to arrange a tow truck to swap out cars. 9:30am THE NEXT MORNING the facility finally got the car in and wanted to send me another car. Useless telephone support: Unable to get a hold of the branch. Was passed back and forth with nothing getting done. My $150 "PayLess" rental car cost me over $300 because of taxis I had to pay for because the car swap they promised me never happened. Avoid this company!!!!!

Make sure to do a walk around
Pros: Car was clean and ready to go when we arrived.
Cons: There were many dings on the car that I had to note before accepting it and then I had to track an employee down to note all damage to vehicle prior to driving away with it.
