Sold out in Salt Lake
Pros: The gentleman working the location was very polite.
Cons: Apparently the whole city was overbooked. I had to wait 4 hours to get a car. I VB ended up having to take a compact instead of the full size for which I had paid.

Our reservation was given to someone else
Cons: Just prior to our scheduled vehicle pickup time, I called the Hertz location to confirm our reservation. The agent told us that our GMC Yukon was ready to be picked up and confirmed our prepaid reservation that was made more than a week prior. We arrived at the location at the scheduled time and saw our vehicle on the lot. It appeared that some of the workers were getting the vehicle ready for us because there were several people walking around it and all the doors were open. I walked inside and told the agent we were here to pick up the Yukon but I was informed it had just been rented to someone else. This was the exact same agent I had spoken to on the phone earlier. I asked where our car was at and I was told the location didn't have any more cars available and the lot was completely empty. We found out that our car had been rented to another person that had been waiting a couple of hours because the lot had no cars available to fill a different reservation that the other person had made far in advance. I was told to try again in about 30 minutes because they were waiting on another hertz location to drop off a car for us. We came back after 30 minutes only to find a still empty lot with several additional renters that we're dealing with the same problem I was. I was told that there were several cars scheduled to be returned that day but none of them had showed up and that there was no way to know if we would be able to pick up a car that day. I reminded the agent that we shouldn't have to wait on a car to be returned since our reserved car was still on the lot at the time we arrived and that he had given our car away to someone else while we were waiting. The agent told us that we will be contacted as soon as a vehicle was available. We went back home to wait for the call. I decided to call the Hertz customer service line to see if they could offer any help but I was told there was nothing that could be done. After about 4 hours of waiting the local Hertz agent called and said they finally had a vehicle available for us. When we arrived, we were given a Ford Expedition instead of the GMC Yukon which turned out to be significantly smaller. We needed room for seven adults and our trip would cover more than 1,200 miles. The Expedition had seating for all seven people but they were pretty cramped and there was almost no room for baggage. In the end, the trip was successful but was delayed quite a bit and was much less comfortable than it should have been. I am just incredibly shocked at the service we received from Hertz. I couldn't believe that a car that was specifically reserved for us would be given away after I had called to confirm our reservation just prior to our scheduled pickup time. I was also surprised at the lack of assistance from Hertz customer service.

Pros: Manager stepped in to try and please us.
Cons: Counter person trying to tell me a Malibu was a premium car like the Impala that we had requested! We weren't the only ones at this location to have problems. When we first got there the people in front of us were having problems and when we brought the vehicle back another couple were mad because Hertz didn't have the reserved vehicle they wanted.
