Cons: will never use avis again -told me I booked "the other San Diego location,even though I specified in reservation in airport,so as a favor rather than honor it they would do me the favor of charging me ONLY about 250 dollars more for a 2 day rental. THANK YOU FOR NOTHING

Expensive but nice
Pros: The car was very clean and drove well. No problems with the car itself.
Cons: The car was very clean and drove well. It ended up costing a lot more than what had been quoted on Kayak because our flights got changed. I spent an hour on the phone trying to contact someone and when my partner finally got someone, they told us they couldn't help us. When I called back again, the customer service agent said that Avis would honor the original price even though I was picking up the car a day later than expected. When I picked it up, the Avis employee said that he didn't know why she said that and charged us far more than what I had been quoted on Kayak. I'll never use Avis again.

Off airport/On Airport
Pros: good location good service good rates
Cons: You have to 'swear under penalty of perjury' that you did not arrive on a flight to SD airport. It should be no business of Avis how I got to the rental location. I understand the SD Port Authority forces Avis to request this customer statement. I object to it and authorize Avis to disclose my details to the Port Authority to register my opposition. Cons: I booked a van for 7 people and 2 bags. But when I went there to collect the vehicle their representative incorrectly told me that I booked a 12 people van and not the 7 people van. I showed then the confirmation email from Kayak that clearly said that the 7-people van has been booked. They said that the picture of the vehicle is that of the 12 people. Avis might have overbooked their 7-people vans and they should find another way of cheating its customers at the 11th hour, especially when they have the confirmation email that says the 7-people van has been booked.

Pros: Great people. Great car. Very fast picking up & dropping off
Cons: Airport shuttle did not know were this Avis rental place was & dropped me at the Avis place at the SD airport. That Avis place at the airport was terrible. Did not want to help me out. Did everything to discourage me from picking up my car at the other Avis place. This was horrible to know that even if they were both Avis places, the one at the airport was not very supportive. Eventually got an Uber to pick me up, drop me at the other Avis place, very close to the airport, & everything was great there.

Pros: The counter agent offered a free upgrade to a small SUV with insurance included. He also allowed us to add a second driver. Shuttle bus driver very helpful with luggage.
Cons: It's a long way to catch the shuttle to the rental car lot (with big luggage), and it's a long bus ride to the lot!

Pros: The Car and the price
Cons: The fact that I was given the runaround; called the place twice the day before to make sure they'd have NY car ready at 11am sharp since I was in a time crunch. They confirmed twice. The morning of I took the bus for an hour to get there only to find out they ran out of cars. I told them that my reservation keeps the car there and they didn't care. Sent me to the airport where that girl at the counter didn't care why I was there. Manager Olga finally took care of me

No car available !
Pros: We will never book with Avis again. Arrived at the San Diego Airport to pick up our rental, and they did not have a car available. Avis offered another car for additional money. We cancelled our reservation and walked over to Enterprise and got exactly what we wanted and for less money.

Cons: Got to San Diego airport, went to Avis rental counter only to be told that my rental was for their counter miles away from airport and I would need to take a cab to get there. They said they could rent me a car right there for twice the cost. Frustrating. Went to Dollar and rented a car

Cons: Despite specifically asking for rentals at San Diego airport, kayak populates the list with every franchise in San Diego County. I selected the first one on the list and when I landed at the airport, I was told by the Avis there that my car was reserved at a different Avid 45 minutes away. However, the airport Avis kindly offered to rent me a car at triple my kayak price. Lame programming by Kayak to not at least warn people that the entries in the list are nowhere near the airport lame service by Avis to not honor the reservation I had at one of their sister locations.

Correct vehicle not available in any locations for
Pros: Team members at the counter were, for the most part- helpful and nice.
Cons: The vehicle reserved was not available at time of pick up, we were sent to 4 different location to try to obtain the correct model- but did not get what we had reserved anywhere. Customer service was less than helpful- they were not able to see what vehicles were in stock and advised us to "stop by some locations" to see what was available instead of being able to give accurate information. Lead to a "wild goose chase" for a vehicle instead of being able to fully enjoy a vacation.

Pros: Seemed great at first.
Cons: They said that the "mileage" issue would be fixed at drop off in Oakland. Turns out the person was just too lazy to deal with it up-front, so I ended up having to talk to 7 different people for resolution.

Pros: Nicer, larger car than expected. Easy pickup/drop off. No hidden fees or pushy sales pitches for extras. Location is not bad, short ride from the airport and worth avoiding the fees, Though, there is a sign about paying the airport rental tax if you came from the airport within the past 12 hours (something like that) but no one asked, so I didn't mention it. Will definitely use again if I need a car in SD.

Rental place not at airport
Cons: We assumed Avis rental car was at San Diego airport. We arrived at 2pm. We were informed at the Avis airport location that we rented from another location Balboa which was 30 minutes away and closed at 3pm. Avis personnel would not wait for us at Balboa. We rented from airport location at an additional cost ($60) that we did not expect. We felt Avis should mAke it clearer at booking that it is not at airport.

Pros: Pickup was easy, car was super clean, staff at pickup location was friendly, price was great!
Cons: Other than pointing where to park, the staff at LAX dropoff wasn't very helpful. No one told us where to put the keys, whether we needed to wait to check out, etc. There weren't enough workers to process all of the dropoffs quickly.

Cons: I could even pick up my car. The location was hidden from plain view and they never answered the phone. The location seemed to be located in an apartment complex, as Kayak and Google Maps mapped me to what seemed like the wrong location. I had to go to another Avis station and they wouldn't give me the same rate. I will never use Avis again.

Pros: Huge, brand new Aviscar facility in San Diego. Toll pass on windshield was nice feature. Ford Focus was fun to drive and had enough power on freeway.
Cons: Taxes and fees almost equalled the car rental cost!!

Not a good experience
Cons: They didn't have a full size. Downgraded me to midsize and charged me more than my original kayak quote. I spent over two hours with customer service trying to rectify the situation and never got any resolution.

Pros: Nothing and will never rent from them again.
Cons: They called us less than 24 hours to tell us they canceled our reservation for a safety recall of 12 passenger vans. All of the other groups who came rented the same exact vans and they were not recalled. We were lied to. Another company felt so bad for us that they gave us a 12 passenger van for $200 less than Avis would've rented to us. Very disappointing

Pros: Finally got what I wanted
Cons: Agent said only minivan available was one he gave me. Agreed to accept if it had Bluetooth. Got in van and didn't have BT. Went back and said not acceptable and another agent produced another (nicer) minivan with BT. Shenanigans.

Pros: Great car and convenience of dropping off at a different location.
Cons: Very agressive on selling the insurance even after I Had declined. Older guy named Eugene, I felt bad and decided to be a nice guy and let him make a sell; even though it was duplicate insurance to my own personal rental car coverage and credit card coverage. He told me it was 11 dollars, I figured it would be nice to help him out and buy it. Found out later it was 11 dollars plus the additional 6.99 he never disclosed. Dirty sales, I guess that's what I get for being nice and trying to help somebody out. I won't be back.

Pros: After a bit of discussion at the counter, the agent agreed to give me the price set at the time of reservation.
Cons: Initially, the price was about 75% higher than quoted online. We were offered a rather odd make of car (a mini-van for 2 adults), and I found the customer service folks we interacted with at pick-up AND drop-off to be less than friendly, and at times less than attentive. The car was fine, the price was what ultimately we'd agreed to originally, but the experience - particularly compared to excellent customer service at competitors - left me unlikely to come back to Avis sometime soon.

Pickup staff not on time to site
Pros: The car itself, convenience of location, cleanliness, etc.
Cons: When arriving at the La Jolla location, the Avis representative was not present for over 15 minutes past the time the desk was supposed to have opened.

Would definitely use again
Pros: Excellent customer service, especially on the pickup end. The young man at the counter & the man who brought the car around (very sorry we didn't catch their names) were very friendly, professional, & informative. No line so we were able to pick up the car quickly. Pickup center was very clean & pleasant (didn't go inside at drop-off). Easy, well-informed pickup. Car was in good condition.
Cons: Fairly minor: although we appreciated the upgrade to a small SVU due to there being no more Standard vehicles, our gas refill was significantly higher than we believe it would have been with a Standard vehicle. Also the vehicle was a bit loud inside (wind noise). Overall we were pleased with Avis, however.

at the end it was all good!
Pros: to rent a car on short notice on a holiday. being able to get a discount on top of it. Easy drop off.
Cons: It was hard to find my way to the car in the confusing parking lot. Had to go the wrong way to get there. The car wasn't in the place it was suppose to be. The guy on the gate had NO CLUE and one other employee we had ask for direction was also clueless. The woman I made the contract was excellent and when I complained about the wrong location and the trash IN the car and the fact, that the car really wasn't that clean all together, she gave me a $30 discount and that was very appropriate!
