Hertz good - Kayak HORRIBLE
Pros: That Hertz helped us fix a KAYAK problem.
Cons: We arrived at Hertz and I handed them my reservation. We were at the LAX airport and they said my reservation was for Burbank. I said NO...I put in LAX in the reservation. The Hertz woman asked, " who did you reserve this through?" and I told them KAYAK and she said that they will do this....switch locations of where you are trying to reserve. I did not know this because this was my first time using Kayak. She was able to charge me a little more and get us into a car, but what if there were not any cars available. We would have been without a car for our trip. VERY FRUSTRATING!!! I WILL NOT USE KAYAK AGAIN!

The worst car rental experience of my life.
Cons: Emma at he Burbank, CA Hertz location was an absolute nightmare. I reserved and paid ($166) for our rental ahead of time and according to my reservation I was to pay $70.26 at pickup for taxed & fees. I printed my reservation/itinerary which showed this as well as my proof of insurance & rental coverage overview from my agent. We get to the Hertz desk after a plane ride where our 2YO son vomited on us (despite that, I was still very polite to her-at first. I am not someone who takes my anger out on other people). I explained why we smelled the way we did and gave her our information and told her I did not want anything extra, no add-ons, just what we already reserved. She pulled it all up, handed me the rental agreement to sign and she wanted me to pay an additional $498! I told her there must be a mistake and that I wanted the reservation I was promised. She told me that what I reserved on Kayak was an "estimate" to which I told her that is100% untrue. After arguing with her for almost an hour I was so angry that I just agreed to the $298 she brought it down to and told her I would be contacting her manager. She refused to give me back my proof of insurance and my itinerary- it's 2017 so I have those on my phone, not sure what she was trying to do there. The next day I call to speka with a manager and who answers? Emma. I ask for a manager and refused to give her my name to which she condescendingly asks "so.. you don't have a name?" then she puts me on hold and the other woman who was at the desk when we picked up the car answers "Hi you asked for a manager?" and I asked her if she was one to which she replied "No..." and proceeded to tell me the manager was "offsite programming computers" and they didn;t know when she would be back. I called Hertz corporate after that nasty call and had explain it all 5 times and was reduced to tears I finally got someone to help and they brought the charges from $298 to $85. Totally ruined the first half of our vacation. I will NEVER use Hertz again. Such a terrible experience.

Cons: Very long wait in line at LAX to pick up the car we had reserved. Main problem was that somehow when I looked at the reservation at the LAX airport when we arrived I noticed that it was to pick up the car at the Bob Hope airport. It was a good thing I noticed that and called to change the place of the reservation. I don't know how that happened but I am as smart as the average Hertz renter and I suspect there was either a mistake made by Hertz or the website makes it too easy to make a mistake.
