Fast. Organized. Affordable. Good service
Pros: I was very impressed with the ease and flow of renting my car. I was a great experience with happy employees and informed employees. And it was affordable!! I will be recommending them and using them!
Cons: They took my address down wrong. But that may have been because they couldn’t read my writing.

Rental with a Debt Card
Pros: First, Renting at Thrifty with a Debt Card was no problem. Second the Car was great. Third I would recommend not going with their insurance options.

Pros: I ordered online and got the cheapest rate.
Cons: The drop-offs was unmanned. Just park the car and give the key to somebody behind a counter. He was grumpy because I didn't have my paperwork.

they said, repeatedly, the rental car center would be open when i arrv
Cons: they lied about the rental car center being open past scheduled hours . It was closed and they refused to help when i was stuck there. ended up with an uber a 1am. will never use thrifty again. i never write these kind of reviews, but this was over the top bad.

Fine print rip off
Pros: Upgraded to a hybrid
Cons: Long check in process, no receipt at check in or email, charged $80/day fine on top of Additional Day charges for keeping the car without notifying them 24 hrs in advance!

Show up and they don't have any cars!
Cons: When we showed up to rent our car, they didn't have any cars. What was most frustrating is that the representatives at the front desk didn't actually know that and happily continued to check people in. Only until an angry customer returned to yell at them did they realize that they had no cars. There were more than 20 people standing out back waiting for a car. The representative then tried to use scare tactics to convince the remaining long line of people checking in that they should wait instead of going to one of the other rental desks. In the end, we didn't manage to get a car. Never again renting with Thrifty!

Pros: the counter process went smoothly
Cons: my husband went to pick up the car and got to the gate and they said he could not take that particular car. He had to turn around and they had to find him another one. The whole process took around 25 minutes

Pros: Very fast pickup and dropoff. I returned it about a half hour late and the fee was reasonable ($4).
Cons: No cruise control. I've had cheaper rentals than this one for a 3 day weekend but the price was fair.

Overall a great rental experience
Pros: Quality car, efficient and friendly vehicle pick up at PDX and drop off at OAK.
Cons: My flight into PDX was significantly delayed (6+ hours delayed), which impacted the timing of my rental car pick up. When I called Thrifty to let them know about my flight delay the agent told me that my rental cost would change due to my pick up now being June 1st rather than May 31st. The rate was going to increase by $400 despite the circumstances being out of my control. The agent had to get her supervisor's approval before honoring my original rate. This added unnecessary stress to an already stressful situation.

Bad all around
Cons: They didn't have the car category we reserved when we arrived. It took 45 minutes for them to find keys to another car to give us. That car had nonstop issues from the minute we started driving and we had to keep pulling into service stations. We tried calling in for customer service 100 times and they kept passing us around and then dropping the call. They charged us even more than we originally made the reservation for. When we returned the car they said they weren't allowed to alter the charges and we would have to keep trying to call in. Terrible. Never using Thrifty again.

Thrifty counter in Oakland frequently closed, lines pile up at Dollar
Pros: Price was ok. When lines finally cleared, the two women who served me were great. Older black woman working the parking area was really nice and helpful.
Cons: Thifty often closes their counter, sending people to line up at Dollar. And the car smelled chemically from cleaners, and then I realized they had tried to cover up the mold smell (instead of just scrubbing and airing it)

Poor service and bad info
Pros: Nothing. The rental could not be processed because I live within 150 miles from the rental center.
Cons: The person at the counter was extremely rude and had no interest in assisting me.

Cons: I was not pleased that the change I had made to my reservation online was not received by Thrifty. I had changed my reservation from 11 am to 10:30 am. When I arrived at the counter, they said I had to step aside and wait 30 minutes before I could pick up my vehicle. There were no other people in line...so this was not only unnecessary, it was rude. My original reservation was for an SUV; when I suggested that perhaps I could take a compact/economy car instead, they lied to me at the counter and told me that there were no compact/economy cars available. I then called the Thrifty phone number and booked a compact/economy car, and picked it up 5 minutes later, at 10:50 am. There were several other compact/economy cars in the lot. My silver lining out of this experience was that, due to Thrifty's uncooperative attitude, I was able to save $100 on my new reservation...I won't be renting from them again any time soon.

Pros: The price is very reasonable. Provided us the right and had no problems with it.
Cons: They didn't properly explain the insurance and we had problems with it. It was settled to our satisfaction nonetheless.

Pros: Rude customer service. Small car (listed as an SUV). Slow. I was the first customer in line. Waited for the desk clerk. The first thing she said was, "I'm not ready."
Cons: The car wasn't there. They sent a "driver" to get it. The agent in the dispatch kiosk kept saying, "I just got here. I don't know." It took an hour to get a car I had booked months in advance. Idiots. Total waste.

What's the point of a reservation?
Cons: Made a reservation in advance. Planned a vacation around that reservation. Showed up to pick up my car and... "Sorry, we have no cars available." This was being told to a room of about 5 reservation holders ahead of me. We were told we could shop other companies or wait until a car became available. It was one of the most inconveniencing experiences I've ever had. No apology was given by the Thrifty rep - she pretended it was normal. I blame Thrifty AND Kayak... this reservation system is a sham.

Pros: I inadvertently booked for a Oakland when I meant SF. The clerk was so helpful, friendly and kind. I had to make this quick trip for a dear friends services. With her kindness you will know that when we have disparity in our lives patience ability to obtain what is needed in an effective and kind manner is so appreciated for ones stress!!!

Cons: Price, was $5.00 extra than the orig deal. I had to wait for the car mor than 40 min. Same thing to returned it. No as bad only like 20 min. Very inefficient, short and no concern for the clients.

Thrifty OAK Airport
Pros: Very nice staff. Staff did not push insurance at all. We did pay extra for bay area toll reader for bridges @ $12 day

Book with the actual rental agency, not Kayak.
Pros: Good staff, easy check-in and check-out.
Cons: Thrifty has something called a 'wild card' rental, which means you get what they have. This is confusing and surprising when you land and just want to leave the airport. Kayak did not make this known during the booking process, so I was expecting something different from what I got. In summary, book with Thrifty directly.

Poor begining and not so great end
Pros: cost of deal great
Cons: Arrived and no one was at the Thrifty counter - sign said to go to Dollar counter where sign said to go to kiosk. Ended up going directly to the lot booth. When car was selected as instructed and loaded with luggage proceeded to lot checkout gate - the clerk at the lot check out gate tells me we need to return the car and pick another car - very frustratng! When returning car clerk said her hand computer went down and sent me to the lot booth to attain receipt. Poor customer service.

For the price, it was good
Pros: Price was great. No upsell at all from sales person. The return couldn't have been easier.
Cons: Typical bait and switch although not sure if that was Kayak or Thrifty. The special deal we signed up for was a speciality car (generic) and a Nissan Juke was pictured. We ended up with a Chevy Malibu 4-door. But at the price, 4 wheels and a car that worked, we weren't upset. More like amused. It did take an hour from when we got our bag to when we drove off the lot. I was surprised they didn't have a car waiting.

A business model built around abusing the customer
Pros: I had no problems with the actual car.
Cons: The initial point of contact at car pickup was the most deceptive sales woman trying to trick me into paying for everything. She tells me to pick an insurance coverage plan from a handout showing 3 choices (none of which I need and all of which double my bill), she asks where I'm going so she can recommend a more fitting vehicle than what I reserved a week in advance without mentioning the huge price increase. She says the car I chose was too small for a snowboard, which it wasn't at all. On top of the rental estimation and fees I planned for when reserving online, there were $40 additional taxes and fees for obsurd things tacked on at pickup. "you could have avoided them if you didn't pick up at the airport" she says. Why didn't it present this information online? I ask to no answer. After about 5 times telling the lady I just want to get what I signed up for and I just want to pay what my online estimate was, I finally get her to stop offering bullshit add-ons (I still have to pay the additional fees). During the rental, customer service was acceptable, except that every minor thing asked for costs additional fees. I pushed my drop off time from 5 am to 10am (a time I would have been given had I not pre registered online for 5 am, which is what I had to do to get a better deal) and of course there is no cost for the additional time, just a $12 bullshit "changing" fee. Overall, I suppose it's thrifty but it's literally not worth the savings for the amount of devicivenes and deception that actually put me in bad mood on the first day of a long anticipated vacation and It's hard to get me in a bad mood.

Pros: The car actually worked
Cons: Old car with 15k miles plus a rattle. Clerk at check in told me an upgrade was $10/day that I chose but then all the paper work said $25/day. The old bait and switch. Be careful!!!

Pros: Service was exactly as you would expect - not the fastest but not too slow. The car was cheap, loud and certainly not exciting. If you plan on driving a lot, the prepaid gas price at Thrifty (Oakland, CA) is a good deal compared to some of the other rental agencies like National - same price as the surrounding area gas stations. Overall, I paid for a cheap economy car at a budget rental company and got exactly what I expected.
Cons: It was a Hyundai Accent - what's enjoyable about that car?

Truth in Advertising?
Pros: Price was great
Cons: Car apolstry was dirty. Advertised as a mystry car good for transport of 5 adults. Arrive and it was a compact. Told that Thrifty policy is that a compact is fine for tranporting 5 adults. Not good.

1 minute early and charged
Cons: No grace period. I was 1 minute early and charged over 10 dollars more and had to fight it. I was told there is no grace period and needed to get gas within 10 miles and bring in receipt...It felt harsh over board and i have never experienced that at all the other rental shops. I wont be using Thrifty again because of my experience.

Beware of hidden costs and upsales! (duh.)
Pros: The pick-up and return process was very streamlined and easy, and staff members were friendly and informative.
Cons: Like a sucker, I fell for the counter agent's encouragement to upgrade from an economy to compact car (on account of the stormy conditions), as well as to pre-pay for gas (on account of the likelihood of my using a full tank), and to purchase the minimum insurance that would cover damages to the car... throw a few taxes and fees in there and, next thing you know, the advertised price of $42 was $110. Standard practice in the rental car industry, I'm sure...
