Kayak advertised we would get a suv compact. When arrived at budget, they offered a small sedan.we were counting on a small suv. When we told them and showed them what we booked they said it is kayaks fault for misguided customers.Reviewed Feb 16 2026

When I showed up to pick up my vehicle, the Budget agent informed me that he had no one-way rentals available even though I had made the reservation 10 days earlier through Kayak. He told me that they are a franchise, that he cannot control Kayak or it’s website, and that if I wanted a one-way rental, I would need to go to the airport. I explained that I intentionally made the reservation at an off-airport location so as to avoid the airport hassle. By Budget not informing me of this dilemma the time I had made my reservation 10 days earlier, my hands were strapped, and I had to instead purchase a one-way flight at the last second to go home (from LAS to PHX on Southwest for $279 and a day later). It appears that Kayak and Budget have a communication malfunction, and as a result, I have zero confidence in ever trying to rent from Budget again. If Budget would offer me a free 3-day rental to win back my trust and make amends for the unplanned expense and hassle that they caused me, I would consider giving them another chance. It was a terrible experience. I’d called Budget on November 17th ( if they record their phone calls, you can verify that I had this conversation) and asked to upgrade my vehicle to a premium SUV. The person at budget said that it would be no problem. When I got to the counter, the person at the counter said I had booked a 15 seater van. They told me there were no premium SUVs available and the person behind the counter suggested I go ask the other rental car companies if they had a vehicle for me. The lady behind the counter offered me a Chevy Traverse for $500 more than I’d been quoted for the premium SUV. There was nothing I could do but accept it, we had to get on the road and drive to our destination. If Budget is willing to do the right thing and reimburse me for the overage that they charged me, I’d consider using Budget again otherwise, that’s the last time I’ll be using Budget in the future.Reviewed Jan 14 2026
