The design of the hotel and the location The service was extremely poor. The concierge was not very helpful. The rooms would not be cleaned unless requested and after several complaints. The coffee was brought cold. Walked into our room bathroom at 5pm to find the housekeeping bucket and mops in the middle of the bathroom. The bellman placed our shopping bags in a wrong room without so much as an apology.
Bar Rooms ,menu
Wonderful location (but Lower East Side, not central). Bice bar and public spaces. Beware the tiny, tiny rooms!
Comfort of room. View. Restaurant. Location.
Location, appearance, friendliness of staff, and the rooftop. The fitness center was adequate and even if it wasn't, the view from there was amazing! There was great food at the hotel and all around the neighbourhood, try Wolf Nights and Tiny's Giant Sandwich Shop. We spotted a few TV and sports stars in the lobby, that was interesting...they are much uglier in person. I felt like I spent a lot of time waiting for the elevator and the complimentary coffee seemed to be a chore for the staff to deal with. Also, there was an incident when my girlfriend needed assistance with something and the concierge was skeptical that she was a guest and was very rude. Everyone else was great!
The view was nice and facilities were very clean Parking and access to valet/ waiting area were difficult. Rooftop bar was closed.
Hotel is a good location, within walking distance to SoHo, Nolita, Bowery, short train ride into Brooklyn. I came in on a red-eye and arrived at the hotel at 6:30 and they had a room for me, which they claimed it was a "free upgrade." Heater didn't work as well. Room was 50 degrees when I arrived. Put it on full blast and it only got up to 58 in 4 hours. I left it on and took off, returning 15 hours later at 3am and the room was still only 62 degrees. The luggage storage lady was rude and inattentive. She was rude when I dropped off my bag and I had to retrieve it myself. Also they used stickers with crappy adhesive so now my luggage has goo on it.
Right in the middle of Downtown New York, easy to get to everything walking or by subway. The hotel had good, reasonably priced food and nice clean rooms. It was great for a weekend get-away with my husband.
great location and place for those who like to get out and explore the city. not for those who want to lounge around the hotel and hang out at a hotel bar.
Great location, attentive staff
The King size bed, balcony and highly efficient room was clean, comfortable and most of all affordable. The staff is equally representative of the best in the business. The location is so fantastically being on the boarder of everything convenient in walking distance. To top off the trip the hotel offers tip cards that include discounts on many of the areas establishments. Our discounted Uber ride to the airport was a pleasant end to our fantastic visit to New York City. NobleDEN made the weekend get away; memorable. Sincerely. There was nothing that I found to be a dislike about this hotel
Front desk staff extremely friendly and accommodating. Location is great and good value for the money
Loved the location - busy, bustling part of the city but our rooms were very quiet and comfortable. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.
Stunning penthouse. Recommended for absolutely amazing views and parties. At times, tough to get ice up to the room as there are two elevators to the area - sometimes one could not hear the knocking. Solution, Keep the doors open so that they can walk in without difficulty.
Not at all, Room 705 was noisy. Poor service was provided.
Location. Design. Chic. Friendly c One loud night, Halloween weekend.
very pleasant staff- helpful with directions, charge my phone etc
Good location and interesting room design plus cool shower & free NY Times. Lack of replacement shampoo each day; noise Sat night on 7th floor.
the staff was great at suggesting places to go and places to dine. The room was clean and contemporary in style not a lot of space to put luggage, if you want to live out of it. Its best to just unpack and use the closet space
The hotel has a modern, slightly industrial feel with cement ceilings and exposed beams, which I liked. The bathroom is similar to recently updated Hyatts but the living/sleeping space is much more trendy. I liked the floor to ceiling windows and the light fixtures. Our king suite has a great little sitting area, too. The most important thing was that the location cannot be beat. We didn't take a taxi once! There are lots of great bars, restaurants and clubs in the area but the subway stop nearby makes everything easy. The walls don't seem very well insulated. We were woken up at 3:30am by our rowdy neighbors opening and shutting their door and talking.
The hotel staff did a great job at catering to our every need. They were prompt and never seemed annoyed with our many specific requests. The room was clean, comfortable, and the rain shower was amazing. I have nothing but good things to say about my stay. I would recommend the Thompson LES to anyone traveling to New York. No complaints. Perhaps the area wouldn't be ideal for people visiting NYC for the first time, as it's a more local/less touristy area. Having said that, it is only a $10 cab ride away from Time Square, or a short trip on the subway to anywhere in Manhattan.
Staff were friendly and the room was large and comortable. Couldn't fault it.
From the decor of the hotel, to the hot staff, to the art deco rooms, it was a great stay. I will definitely make this my new nyc hotel.
The staff, food, vibe, smell, and the help Valet parking
I was treated very well by hotel staff. There was a room upgrade available and it was given to me without asking. It's a short walk away from SoHo shops and the subway is across the street. I did not enjoy the on site restaurant (Shang Restaurant). It's was empty for the most part of the weekend and the service was a bit poor...which is odd because there were no customers.
Very modern and trendy hotel with perfect location for Soho etc. very well thought details. For the price, some kind of breakfast should be included. Even if only coffee and croissants..
Archicturally lovely Staff was non-existent and rude when available. Details were neglected. Overcharged for items not received and didn't even bother discussing it with the obviously dis-interested staff. Real shame such a beautiful space has no soul.
Very friendly and very helpful, especially accomodating our 1 year old.
Location was great with a lot of varied night-life options. Terrace bar and pool is something to check out for sure. A/C worked well but was very loud especially with something loose inside that made a clunking noise constantly while the A/C ran. I called down after the first night to see if could be addressed. Engineering was sent while we were out but the problem wasn't fixed. We got in too late to deal with the second so had to try prob a chair against it to dampen the noise :(
Great look, great location. Clean, modern rooms. Perfect for me Last night of my stay, my floor (9th) turned very noisy. Not just in rooms but up and down the hall. Younger crowd yelling to each other, etc. Felt like I was trying to sleep in the middle of a frat party! This was between 1-2am and went on for quite some time. It would have hoped someone would ask them quiet down on room levels.
Nice staff, clean rooms in good condition. Courtyard. Subway is very accessible Bridge traffic and unattractive street area.
I rarely write reviews but our stay at Hoilday Inn LES was perfect as it was three blocks away from my family we were visiting. We booked two rooms for the price of one boutique hotel in the neighborhood. The rooms were clean and modern. I've stayed in luxury hotels like the Ritz and boutique hotels like the Kimptons. This Holiday Inn room reminded me of the W Hotel in San Francisco (size, style, etc. less one down comforter). The staff was always courteous and helpful. Free WiFi! could use their "e-room" to use computer or print boarding passes. Free complementary toiletries if you forgot something. Air conditioner was amazing. Showers and water pressure were awesome. Room was very quiet. This will be our go-to hotel from now on in NYC.
Good location, clean room Small bed, not "king sized"
The staff were great. Starting with Elvis at the door Darnell,, Christine, Alex, Eddie, Leo & the women with the nightly cookies. The fresh baked cookies at night & the restaurant/room service food were very good. Showers & beds fine. (The sheer curtains could be laundered or replaced.)
Some of the best features of the Hotel on Rivington are what make it unique - the full length windows around the room, including in the shower room were superb, and the views from the 14th floor were amazing. Also the minibar content (premium drinks and spirits) is a nice touch! Being in the Lower East Side was ideal for anyone who wants to go out and experience New York nightlife, as well as being well connected to the rest of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Very different, unique hotel, highly recommended.
Loved the size of the room, the steam/shower, and the wall of windows Wish there was a shade on the bathroom window, more hooks/shelves in the extra space in the bathroom (only one hook on which to hang two towels?!) How can we be green and re-use towels that can't be hung to dry? The room was a tiny bit tattered - beat up around the edges of walls, unfinished panel behind curtains, curtains hanging off hooks, but I suppose it's hard to keep up with the maintenance in NYC!
Helpful, friendly staff. Great location. Spacious room with a balcony, great view of Freedom Tower and excellent temper-pedic bed.
Staff was wonderful able to accommodate uptown view request. Views from the hotel were lovely. Street noise, in the 16th floor and we could hear everything.
the bed was sooo comfortable, we had a 180 degree view of manhattan skyline, excellent by night. staff great and great restaurants +coffee within walkng distance.$5 breakfasts great. No we had a ball for 13 nights and would love to stay there again.
Big rooms, looked good very nice bathroom, good for young people, popular lounge on the 1.floor,
Decent helpful staff Quite noisy
The room is clean, the location very convenient for us, and the staff was very helpful. Not a thing
The location is brilliant - right in the middle of a great scene in New York. The hotel design is fantasic with good sized rooms and wonderful floor to ceiling windows. The beds were also extremely comfortable. We didn't recieve good service. We did not have anything explained to us on arrival, but, witnessed other guests recieving better introductions to the hotel and what was available. Even at breakfast we were not told about the buffet (the more cost effective option) until the last day - by another guest not the waiter! The room was also not as clean as we epected from this level of hotel. .
The room was large(for NYC), the bed was very comfy, and the bathroom very roomy and well-stocked. The lighting in the bathroom was terrible. One small light over mirror and light with dimmer over tub. Very hard to put make-up on!
The room was beautiful and we were upgraded when they found out it was our honeymoon. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel bar was great at night! All was great
The bed is super comfy and the location is great: little Italy, Chinatown, Soho - so many choices at your doorstep for breakfast is mind blowing! The rooms are fairly small, if you are tired for a day and want to stay in it can get a bit claustrophobic!
How close it was to shopping, sites and restaurants.
The staff was very friendly and the hotel was super clean. My room was on top of a pub and on saturday the music was very loud and O couldn't sleep. Plus the nearest subway station was not very nice, at night I would be a little afraid to go there if I was alone. But an option is to walk a little more and pick up the subway in some other station.
position and price
Good quality rooms, pleasant staff, and excellent location.
Location is OK, considered a safe area and near to the subway. There is a air conditioner in the room and with private bathroom, which is hard to get for that kind of price in Manhattan. There is no elevator for a 4-5 storeys hotel!!! I dragged my 20kg luggage to the reception on second floor, then to my room on 4th floor. If you are a backpacker where you carry everything on your back, I guess its fine.
It was fairly easy to access from the subway and was right in the trendy side of the city - near Soho and Little Italy which was perfect for finding little boutiques or cafe's that can make decent coffee! The steep staircase didn't make it luggage friendly!
Location brilliant, staff excellent especially porters. Very clean. Beds extremely comfortable with good fresh linen. Housekeeping staff excellent. Would stay again really enjoyed my stay. The room is beginning to look a little 'tired'. Sink cracked. furniture scuffed and the walls were marked a little in places.
I booked this hotel on Kayak after looking at the reviews. It was a phenomenal find. The staff is so polite and helpful. There was parking right up the street. The rooms are small but almost all are in NYC unless you want to pay for the space. Hopefully, you're out and about enjoying the City. The linens and bedding were very clean. They did a fantastic job renovating the oldest standing hotel in NYC. We plan on making it our hotel of choice when visiting. No complaints here.
The location Rooms extremely small and squashed, very noisy both from street noise and internal noise through the walls, very expensive for room. No breakfast facilities.
Nice area, clean rooms, silence, very nice ladies at the reception We did not expect much of the breakfast, as it is included in the price, but you can do much better...
Spotless, comfortable room. Friendly and helpful reception staff. Great location in the buzzing heart of Chinatown. Breakfast arrangements a bit scrappy at busy times.
The front desk staff are great! Small hotel but really cosy, clean and they know you by name! How warm is that?! The bed is so heavenly that I overslept all the time. The helpful hotel staff just makes my stay so memorable and I felt well taken care of though it was my 1st time in NYC. I wish there were security guards at the lobby as this is a smoke-free hotel thus I had to battle the cold winds and smoke just right outside the hotel in the public area but Chinatown is dead town in the evenings and it can be sketchy and dangerous in Bowery at night. Security could have been better so that hotel guests may feel more assured or no strangers gate-crashing the ground floor of the hotel whilst the actual lobby is on the 2nd floor.
The room was ok in general but very old bed and basic curtain shower. Old noisy AC with dial. Extreme noisy all night.
Good design choices... nice bathroom (very Japanese)... simple, very comfortable, excellent bed/bedding. Highly polished wood floor a wonderful touch (no yukky wall-to-wall.) For this price ... it doesn't get any better. Highest recommendation for a budget hotel.
Staff is very pleasant. They help you with everything.
The staff at this hotel are so friendly. Location is convenient across the street from a train line and a few blocks from little Italy. The hotel literally stinks. The room smelled so bad like regurgitated curry that we asked to switch. The second room smelled as well but not as bad, only in the bathroom. I think it must be the smell in the sewer pipes or something. Had to leave the bathroom door closed the entire trip so our clothes didn't smell like sewage.
peace and quiet
Friendly staff, clean rooms, easy access by subway
We did appreciate the location, the wooden floor of our room and the breakfast included in our night rate. The noise coming from the street, no noise insulation, I think they should implement that a lot especuially for the rooms onto Bowery street and Grand Street.I think the linens (both bathroom and bed) should be cleaned much better, while the cleaning of the room was great!
The quoted price for occupancy at the hotel did not show the four separate tax charges added at checkout. I would have preferred to know exactly how much I would be charged at the time of booking.
This hotel was in a great location close to everything- subway, restaurants and bars. The room itself was nice and clean, it seems like it was recently updated. Like most hotels in NYC, it's small. It also doesn't have a bar or restaurant on site, but with so many near it you don't need to worry.
I needed a hotel close to a conference I was attending and found a deal here online. this turned out to be a great choice. Affordable small room is well furnished perfect for one person or a couple who like to be close! I travel with a service dog, and the hotel staff treated us both extremely well. There was a ton of fun NYC activity to do in walking distance & subway is right across the street, so my business trip included the requisit level of evening debauchery. If you'd rather spend your time in the city out on the town than in your room, this perfectly fine hotel saves ya money you could spend in restaurants & at shows! pipes creak... really that's all i got. the building's old world charm I guess!
I've stayed here at least 5 times now, so finally felt compelled to review. The hotel is nothing truly fancy but it almost feels that way. Rooms are very small, but they're nice. If you're there for business or travel and not planning to stay inside you'll be fine. I've stayed in hotels for twice the price that feel to be the same scale. I keep returning bc they make it easy. The staff is super friendly and the location is literally steps from the subway. More then anything it's the price vs facilities that can't be beat. For the same $$ you'd be staying in generic corporate hotels that are uglier, less clean and grumpy. There's also coffee and tea served all day, which is nice. The elevator is slow and they no longer serve breakfast.
Wonderful small hotel right in the heart of the Lower East Side of NYC. You step out the hotel door and you are in the real NYC. Less than a block away from a subway station. Beautiful 7th floor patio that you can see views of the Empire State Building, Freedom Tower and the Chrysler Building. Every type of restaurant you can think of within walking distance. A Whole Foods a block away. The mattresses in the rooms could be a little better quality. Not terrible but could be better.
Epic rooftop view of the city! Super friendly staff.
This was our second stay at Hotel East Houston and we still liked it. The rooms are quite small but big enough to not feel claustrophobic. There's a glass wall between the bathroom and the room, so you'll need to be pretty comfortable with your traveling partner. I liked the fact that our room had an Air conditioning/heat system we could control on our own. The hotel is not super convenient to any major Subway lines. Houston Street is often busy so you'll likely hear some street noise in your room. But hey, that's NYC for you.
Rooftop view was amazing. Staff were great. Beds are extremely uncomfortable. If you need to iron clothes good luck. Room was not like the picture extremely small.
The staff was so nice and the room was clean & comfortable. A great deal in a fun neighborhood. They even held onto my luggage after check out so I could run around the city before heading to the airport. The rooms are all situated by the elevator which can get a little noisy but not too bad.
nice folks, good location, good free coffee very uncomfortable bed, low grade cheap bed linens, old carpet floor, bad lighting in room.
Everything was very good, nice and helpful people. Very clean. The location of the hotel has easy access to public transportation and is safe but the area smell bad and does not look very nice. Inside the hotel is very good and clean but outside is not. (Close to Chinatown)
Beautiful small hotel with clean and modern rooms. From the window I could see the Manhattan bridge which adds to my down-east Manhattan experience. Personnel was helpful and kind, they provided excellent breakfast. There is an M15 bus station next to the hotel so it is easy to go downtown from there. Holiday Inn, please invest in the hotel to add noise-filtering windows to the rooms. I would suggest this hotel for visitors who already visited New York previously, as the surrounding does not reflect the overall landmark Manhattan really has. Overall I was satisfied with the hotel and thanks for the hospitality!
The hotel was very clean and the staff were helpful and patient. The free breakfast was well stocked and we had no problems with appliances in the room. There are even recommendations for places to eat and directions to various parts of new york on the website. Very good deal for the price. :) The only downside was the location which was above a market. If you don't like the smell of fish it might bother you, but it's not nearly as pungent once you get inside.
I'm a student and found the tariff to be reasonable and a great deal considering the proximity to downtown Manhattan. The location wasn't very good. I'm not sure if I'll choose this location again.
Great staff who were professional and polite. The toilet in our room was constantly running. The staff addressed it immediately. Wonderful breakfast as well as seating area. Very comfortable rooms and amenities were top-notch!
Friendly staff No lamps, bedside tables or shelves, or closet space
Great location. Modern & sleek design. Easy access to subways & taxis. Unprofessional staff. They were hanging out with hotel guests while on duty. Very small rooms. The bed barely fit lengthwise in the room. Couldn't even lay my bag down. Noise from street & hotel hallway, not great sound proofing in rooms.
