Flights to Wisconsin: the best tips from KAYAK users' own experiences

Insights shared by verified travelers who flew to Wisconsin

My tip is to completely choose a different airline like Southwest where everything is included and you know what you’re getting and you’re treated well and very comfortable. Spirit has no entertainment no free snacks or drinks, no included luggage no included carry-ons no space, basically no service. It’s meant for single people with an hour flight
HeatherFlew with LufthansaORD-MKEAug 2024
Make sure there's enough time between connections to go through customs and recheck your luggage. They will not let you proceed so you can't even try to run and catch the flight if you want to.

I don't fly enough to give an assessment. Did appreciate low fares of Spirit and Sun Country Airlines.

FAQs - booking Wisconsin flights

  • I want to visit the Green Bay Packers football stadium. What airport puts me closest to the stadium?

Booking a flight to Wisconsin’s Green Bay–Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB) is the nearest airport to Lambeau Field. However, flights arriving and departing here are more expensive than flights to the Madison or Milwaukee airports. The drive from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is about 1h 43m from the stadium but offers a beautiful drive along the coast of Lake Michigan.

  • I want to visit Lake Superior. What’s the closest airport?

The quickest way to get to Lake Superior would be to book a flight to Minnesota. Duluth International Airport (DHL) is a few miles from the border of Wisconsin and the Great Lake Superior. From there you can catch other flights to surrounding cities in Wisconsin.

  • Where’s the best place to book a flight to Wisconsin if I want to explore Lake Michigan?

Arriving at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport or Green Bay–Austin Straubel are the two best options when it comes to being closest to Lake Michigan. While there is variation in flight frequency, depending on where you’re arriving from, flights arriving in Milwaukee are cheaper than flights landing in Green Bay. However, both will put you within a short driving distance of the lake.

  • Where should I fly to if I want to explore more towns in Wisconsin?

Consider flying to Milwaukee if you’re wanting to visit more cities in Wisconsin. While there is no international airport located in the center of the state, Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is a good hub to book other flights to surrounding areas or to drive to nearby cities and areas that you want to explore.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from the United States to Wisconsin?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from the United States to Wisconsin.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from the United States to Wisconsin?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from the United States to Wisconsin is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from the United States to Wisconsin?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional round-trip ticket. You could then fly from the United States to Wisconsin with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from the United States to Wisconsin?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying from the United States to Wisconsin up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

  • Book at least 1 week before departure in order to get a below-average price.
  • High season is considered to be January and February. The cheapest month to fly from the United States is February.
  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Wisconsin flight deals.
  • The majority of flights in Wisconsin will arrive and depart from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE). It is the busiest airport in the state, serving commercial and international flights.
  • For those wanting the quickest and most nonstop flight to the capital of Wisconsin, consider flying to Dane County Regional Airport (MSN). It’s the second most frequented airport in the state, so you’ll find flights departing and arriving daily.
  • Consider booking a flight from a city in the southern part of the United States, such as the Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Flights from here will be less expensive, while flights from the West Coast, like Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), are a little pricier though more frequent.
  • Booking a flight to Rhinelande–Oneida County Airport (RHI) is the nearest local airport in northern Wisconsin. However, flights here from out of state may be more expensive. Consider booking a nonstop flight from one of Wisconsin’s international airports, such as Madison or Milwaukee. Just remember that flights from Madison are not as frequent as flights from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport.
  • Flights to Eau Claire (EAU) or Madison at the Dane County Regional Airport are the best options for anyone wanting to visit the western part of the state. However, consider booking your flight to Madison: flights here are considerably less expensive than flying to Eau Claire.

Great service. Great staff. Boarding was a little slow, but I think there was a service dog slowing things down.

Great service. Great staff. Boarding was a little slow, but I think there was a service dog slowing things down.

Flight left early and arrived early. the whole trip was excellent.

Seats were really tight and the seat belts did not give enough slack.

I like in St George and prefer to fly out of CDC than SGU. Hopefully, they will continue the flights out of Cedar

Broken jer bridge. Poor communication about it. Lost 2 of 4 luggage pieces

Overall, it was okay. Seat was a little cramped. Would’ve liked more substantial snacks or opportunity to buy some.

Newer plane, relatively easy boarding, not a full flight and was told that we could not be moved up because of weight and balance issues. Otherwise, a very good experience.

Other then mechanical/ computer problem and 3.5 hours flight delay the flight was great. I guess that what happened when you fly an old airplane now a day.

I was with one of the last zones to board. It was kind of annoying to finally get called to board and my whole section was already on the plane. Clearly they boarded with previous zones. So by the time I got on board, there were no spaces for my luggage above my head. I had to put my luggage 4+ rows behind me, which meant that I had to wait even longer to get off the plane, since I had to wait for those rows to clear the aisle before I could retrieve my luggage and exit the plane. This also held up the plane cleaners, as they couldn't service my row until I cleared it, so they were all standing there waiting for me, while I'm standing there waiting for the other passengers to clear the aisle. Anyways, I wasn't in a rush this time, so I just waited, but I could see that being a problem in the future. Now, I could have checked my luggage, of course, but coincidentally, a friend of mine on the same flight got their luggage damaged (wheel completely knocked off) and was told by the Baggage Attendant in the airport that Delta doesn't "cover wheel damage" on luggage. This was disappointing to hear. I'm glad I didn't check mine through. If it were my luggage, I'd be highly frustrated to hear that. It makes me not want to check my luggage in the future.

The dear was very limited in space. I could put my water bottle in seat basket. Also, there was no inflight entertainment in the delta app?

Loved the leg room and tvs screens on the seats and free WiFi. Wish the price was lower and could save by rebooking

It took 1-1/2 hours to get our luggage after we landed. That to me is unacceptable

The flight was delayed for 4 hours. Once onboard the crew was wonderful.

Overall was excellent. Will definitely us JetBlue in the future.

I rate it is good we had a 4-hour travel delay at one point but JetBlue gave out food vouchers and travel points credits for another flight so they try to make up for it

Smooth boarding and friendly crew. Unfortunately as soon as we boarded the unit that provides air circulation failed. The pilot informed us and requested maintenance technicians to check it out. The plane became uncomfortably warm without any fresh air coming in. Plus the repair delayed our departure. I am glad the maintenance crew were able to fix the problem. I also was without use of my tv monitor for the first 1/3rd of the trip.

Communication with the customer and stay is important. Staff off with a minor inconvenience but it worked out of course. Also this was a very old Mint Class plane. They snuck this one in on us. The updated aircraft are much better.

The flight itself was fine, but the boarding process was extremely frustrating. There is no one scanning boarding passes - passengers just scan themselves and enter the jetway. By the time my husband and I got on the plane and were halfway to our seats they determined there were too many bags on the plane and everything at that point needed to be checked. This created a lot of unnecessary chaos. They should have alerted people before getting on the plane that they would need to start checking bags instead of waiting until people were already on the plane.

The best flight I’ve had in a while. The plane was like 25% capacity, if that. Smoothest boarding and deplaning process I’ve ever experienced. Wish all flights were this smooth.

Did not enjoy this flight at all. All of my coworkers flew delta and I chose JetBlue because I really value how simple the WiFi and entertainment is and this flight I didn’t get either. Crew staff was unsympathetic to my system not working, everyone I asked for help with was extremely bothered by my request for help.

I liked all the informational texts. I always knew where to go and when .

Liked the hospitality . The ight took us 6 hrs to get from fort myers to ewr.

Oh my gosh, I loved my experience with United! they made me want to travel more often.

The flight attendants in First Class were mediocre at best. They did not take our tray away until we were about to land and only did so when I press the call button. The United person at the United Club was asked to get us our boarding pass since we missed the flight due in Chicago. She argued that we did not have seats on the flight given to us in Moline. Furthermore, she was adamant that we did not have a First Class ticket. After I spent much time with her trying to show we were correct, she reluctantly agreed. She was probably the most incompetent ticketing person I have ever met and I have traveled 3 million miles on United plus many additional miles with other carriers. United has definitely deteriorated in more than on way.

The plane was in Moline all night. Consequently, we assumed an on time departure at 8:15am. Unfortunately, and as is the normal case with United in Moline, we departed 2.5 hours late. When the crew came, it was discovered that there was very little heat in the plane. Seems this should have been checked hours before the crew arrived. Then when we boarded and the plane was to be de-iced, the United de-icing truck was not working! We awaited the American Airlines truck. All of this caused us to miss our connection in Chicago. My suggestion is never take United Airlines flight from Moline. We have been disappointed 80% of the time and have vowed to not take United again from Moline.

Flight was delayed two hours. No snacks and no tv screens. My bag got stuck in Chicago

Awful. Worst airline I have ever been on. Crew were among the rudest people I have ever dealt with. United staff members were rude and disrespectful. My flight was delayed, causing me to miss a connecting flight. I understand things happen, but when staff start lying about what actually happened, that is when I have an issue. Just be honest, really it isn’t that hard. I’m being very honest with this review and I don’t find this difficult what so ever. In fact, because of United Airlines, my Christmas holiday was off to a really rocky start. As someone who has traveled across the world, it has only been United that I have had a truly awful experience.

Received an email the night before showing that there would be seatback entertainment on our flight. We get on and there was no seatback entertainment. And then it was a scramble to try to set up the iPads for the kids before takeoff so they could watch something for the four hour flight.

The aircrew was solid, the flight was chill, I had no issues. The gate agent was not the best. I was trying to use a military bag upgrade to move my bag from under the seat to the overhead bins and he told me there’s no overhead bins on the plane, argued with me why booking put a military member in basic economy (I don’t really understand this) and made it an issue to even try to help me stating I’d have to call reservations to get a bag upgrade. When every other agent with United can add it at the gate, this man couldn’t be bothered.

Short flight - no food understandable. Flight was delayed for over an hour. Overall, it was good.

Small plane, so no entertainment. Hour delay! Nobody explained wht the delay was all about.

I wasn’t happy with the hour delay from Dallas to McAllen, but that is the nature of travel. I don’t like to fly in general because of all of the problems all the time.

It went up and down at the right time and place. I’m happy with that outcome.

Staff at the gate were incredibly rude, hostile and threatening. Never fly American Airlines.

Would have been good to have a meal since it was a 5.5 hour flight

Same problems with delays in Dallas. This was weather related and due to the incoming flight being delayed. This was the flight that was delayed due to a missing flashlight which turned out not to be missing.

Most of the delay was due to weather which is not what was at issue here. One delay was due to a missing flashlight and in the end the flashlight was actually found on the plane. The entertainment system is very limited. Live TV options offer only a few channels that are not very appealing. Boarding and deplaning are always difficult. It just takes too much time to get on and off the plane. On the plus side, I missed my connecting flight, but was easily able to book a later flight from the app while enroute.

I had a horrible experience from the time I dropped off my bags until the time I landed. The staff taking the bags at the check-in counter prior to security, forced me to check my baby stroller, even though it weighed less than 20 pounds. their excuse was that the wheels were too big. I have never had an issue gate checking this exact same stroller in the past either on American or on any other airline. when I asked for the agent to show me the rule about the size of the wheels on strollers, they told me to look it up on the AA website. I did so, and did not find any indication that wheel size was a problem for gate checking strollers. The only limitation would be the weight of the stroller which mine was below. I was left with a one-year-old child and all of my carry-on luggage, diaper bag, and the like to walk around the airport without the assistance of a stroller and had the same issue when I exited the plane and had to go all the way to baggage claim without a stroller. In addition, while on the airplane, I was told I can only get one bag of cookies as a snack, even though I was with a child. Apparently my child and I were supposed to share a cookie. While this latter issue is a minor one, it is just another example of the absolutely horrible customer service that American Airlines provides. In addition, the 737 aircraft that I was on was extremely hot and the air vents above the seat were so far away from the aisle and middle seats that it was comical. I could barely reach the air vent to adjust it. I had to ask the person in the window seat to do it for me. The whole experience was just a nightmare.

We boarded after several delays due to mechanical failure and a gate change. The seat cushion in the exit row was very compressed and offered no cushion, making the four-hour journey reasonably uncomfortable. The WiFi worked for a few people, but for most, it did not, and you cannot get entertainment unless you can connect—American Airlines flights do not have seatback screens, and you must use your mobile phone.

Terrible. Internet/kiosk glitch prevented baggage checkin. Line at ticket co in Ter was under serviced and did not move. Agents did not call for flight but rather allowed time to pass. Then told each person as they reached the front if line that it was too late to check bags so they’d have to rebook flights. At least 15 people missed the flight as a result of this incompetence.

My experience with the phoenix airport was terrible, the personnel lay the ticket counter charged me for a carry on that fit in the carry on size box, and the two women I spoke with were terribly rude and not willing to help.,,, there was one lady “candy” on the flight crew that was amazing and is the only reason I stayed on the flight at all, because the other stewards helping people to get seated on the plane were terrible

I loked walking out on the tarmac to board and no first class. I didn't like that they have no snacks or onboard wifi to bide your time.

The plane was clean, the crew was friendly and helpful. It’s a low cost airline so there was no food, drinks or in flight entertainment but we didn’t expect any of these things. In the room for improvement department, they should install USB ports in seats to charge mobile devices.

The seats were extremely hard and uncomfortable, even for a budget airline.

The seats were extremely hard and uncomfortable. It was disappointing even for a budget airline.

Charging $74 for one checked bag is outrageous. I will never fly Frontier again.

Boarding was very well executed. Got my bag right away.

I was surprised that all baggage, including carry on, were charged. Each additional bag went up in cost. Really disappointed in the additional costs.

Our flight was suppose to leave at 9pm and we didn’t board until after 3am. We lost a whole day at our hotel and half a day at a park we paid a lot of money for.

It was a redeye flight, so every passenger just wanted to sleep, but through the entire flight, the flight crew made announcements over the loudspeaker at maximum volume every few minutes making sleep impossible. For example: it’s 2am, and the crew decides to give an extremely detailed announcement about snacks and beverages for sale. And 3am is the perfect time to wake up everyone with a lengthy announcement about how to get a coffee refill and how to take advantage of new offer from frontier for a credit card.
