My boyfriend and I decided to have a fancy night out and found a great deal for Virgin Hotels Chicago. It was for only one night but we wished it could have been a week! Everything was amazing. Check-in and check-out service was fast, easy, and staff were all so friendly and accommodating. Our room was gorgeous, most amazing bed we've ever slept on! Overall, Virgin Hotels had an amazing vibe to it, very hip and fancy. Absolutely recommend!!! That we didn't get to stay longer!
We had to wait 90 mins to be checked into our room. We also had to ask twice to have our room made up even though we had the service light on.
layout, amenities, bed
Brilliant, well thought out design elements made our chamber a pleasure to stay in. Separated dressing room/washroom allowed myself to get ready in the morning while my fiancé grabbed a few extra minutes of sleep in peace. Additionally the staff was very helpful, informative at check-in, and incredibly friendly. Also the Hosted Social Hour is an absolute must do! There wasn't anything major to complain about here. My fiancé felt the complimentary toiletries could have been more femanine scented (or at least a tad more gender neutral) and our server at the dinner in the lobby was slow and forgot a third of our order (to her credit however, she recovered well when the mistake was pointed out).
GREAT design, beautiful art, comfortable, clean, easy and has a personality. Also, mini bar is reasonably priced, which really says a lot. Also, the process to get in and get out was so simple and efficient, I'll be staying there the next time I head back to Chicago.
The historic Hotel Burnham is lovely. The Atwood Cafe is supurb (and I am a picky eater). I booked a King. Upon check-in we were told we could only get a Queen for the 1st night.
Staff were amazing! They took care of all the details with great courtesy. The room was beautiful, the bed was super comfortable and everything was very clean. The Atwood Cafe food was delicious, and they modified reservations for us without a fuss. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to family and friends.
Location, design and hotel environment, free wine in early evening, ease of online registration. no
We had an excellent brunch at the hotel restaurant. The beds were quite comfortable, and yoga equipment was available. We reserved a king room but were given a room wtih a queen bed. The staff did not provide an explanation until we asked. We were told that no king rooms were available.
It was a beautiful hotel and a great experience valet parking price
I liked the location and the quite comfort of the room. I liked the variety of contents in the minibar, even though I didn't actually eat but one thing. My room was a little noisy, but I just wore earplugs and that worked out for the most part.
I had an excellent room with a view of both State and Washington Streets and Millenium Park!
Availability to the theaters and shopping. All in walking distance Rooms are very small. Limited amenities. No coffee in room. Parking is too expensive.
Excellent location, walking distance to everything Its a pet friendly hotel, dogs barking very laud in the halls at night it was hard to sleep, also no buffet breakfast.
The building, itself, is a renovated office building across from Macy's on State St. The location is ideal for sight seeing in the Loop. It's unique. A lot of art deco trim. It's nicely decorated, the staff is pleasant. They serve complimentary wine at 5 p.m. It's boutique hotel, not a monster one. The rooms are small.
Fairly close to everything we wanted to do We had a smoking room because we occasionally smoke and it smelled badly of cigarettes, we had to go and buy spray air fresheners for our room
The hotel is in a great location. We could walk to the Art Museum/CSO Hall as well as to the Magnificent Mile. Navy Pier is a long, but doable walk as well. SleepNumber bed is super. Linens and pillows, comfy. The Herman Miller desk chair is a nice touch. The hotel is not responsible for the construction in front, but it is inconvenient and unattractive.
Location of the hotel was excelent however there were some workings in the street outside but this situation I think was favorable because less traficc in the street. No claims at all, we stayed at the hotel only a short time, most of the day we were outside but the hotel was confortable and the personal polite.
There was a few hairs under pillow and in the bathroom upon arrival .
Valet parking was very expensive for the weekend. We could've chose self parking which was around the block but did not know that until we arrived. We chose the valet parking because we were exhausted from the drive into the city. You have to really look for the hotel driveway to pull in off of the street in unfortunately we arrived on a Friday evening and it took us three or four times driving around the block in bumper-to-bumper traffic to get in.
Loved that Weber Grill is downstairs! Although staff was polite they didn't seem to genuine. Clare was great!
Great location! Housekeeping was very attentive and room was fresh and clean each day.
It was a great hotel, great rooms, very clean, and a pretty nice view of downtown Chicago. All of the staff was amazing and any question we had was answered. If you drive there are tons of parking garages right in the area that are in walking distance. We decided to walk everywhere since it was all right there. We loved our stay and will stay at the Hilton again.
The hotle is really good. And the location s the best thing the hotle have. The staff were friendly and the resturant down in lobby were amaizing, The bathroom shawer were bad. The water presure was so weak and
The beds were nice and the rooms were very clean. The staff was okay, very effective. I liked the showers and fluffy towels. Good view. The window in my room was missing the safety piece that prevents it from opening all the. A 21 story fall may have adverse consequences to the curious child. For me it wasn't a huge deal, I don't have a kid that's going to fall out a window, but it does show a lack of attention to detail. I also noticed the exterior of the building wasn't as clean as other hotels.
The staff was so friendly and I enjoyed the free coffee service in the mornings. I also took advantage of printing out my boarding pass with their easy airline check in computer in the lobby.
Great location! Short walk to shops, parks, river/lake and transit! Lots of sirens go off at night but if you turn the fan on you can sleep much better!!!
downtown, friendly, clean, ammenities coupon for breakfast not adequate for two people. No Valet Parking. Not easy access from parking area. Too much walking to get to hotel lobby.
Nothing Paid for standard room and was told that's a sleeper couch in a room that is really the living room for a suite. Room also smelled like cat urine, couldn't stay there, booked a room at Hotel Intercontinental on Michigan Ave and was treated to a nice room and free breakfast.
nothing special The way staff treat people and no concierge and no body to help
Great location, nice river view, clean room, available shop for the light breakfast on the first floor of the building, should provide more powerful hair dryer.
The staff was very hepful.
good location the cleanness of rooms, old hotel, expensice not included self-parking
room service was excelent. staff were very polite and helping.
Clean room, quick check in/out. It was a little difficult to navigate building because front desk is on an upper floor.
location was ok, although there are so many hotels downtown its not like you dont have choice way to expensive for what you get, i wouldnt stay here again for $220 night, i'm sure there is something better. rooms are typical 1994, boring patched up, siliconed but clean. if it was $120 a night then i might be ok. food at the restaurant was average but trying to be fancy, picture costco chicken parmesan all dressed up with wait staff in black trying to hard to be mod.
I did like the room, it was very comfortable The parking fees
The location is good, slightly away from the bustle of Michigan Avenue, but not too far. Everything is within walking distance and in a nice area. Nice, friendly staff. It would have been great to have a mini refrigerator in the room and the room temperature was a bit colder than my comfort level.
I like the location the best. Breakfast was ok but maybe offer more choices. Room had a mold smell and door locks were very loud when closing.
Free breakfast in the morning. The eggs were questionable though. My toilet didn't work.
Having managed a hotel myself previously, I was pleased with how friendly, helpful, and quick the staff were in their attention to guests. Very clean and welcoming.
The courtyard was marvelous. Breakfast was outstanding. The staff went out of their way to help the guests. Room service was great. The comforter for the bed was notwell made. The batting shifted to the foot of the bed during the night.
I like that the door men say " welcome home" when they open the doors for you as you return to the hotel. I enjoyed the included breakfast and the central location. All staff was great; re friendly and helpful. no
Loved the open atrium, complimentary cooked to order breakfast, early evening cocktail and snack reception, cleanliness of the hotel and pool area. It really was a wonderful location and felt very friendly!
Happy hour and breakfast were nice. Our room was not clean! Stains on the pillows and towels and hairs in the bed linens. Bathroom was tiny!!!! We had stayed here before a couple years ago and it was a much nicer room and bathroom. Not impressed at all with the housekeeping... No attention to detail.
Free large breakfast Free cocktails
I have stayed at the Embassy Suites Chicago near Navy Pier previously and I had wanted the experience of the Downtown hotel to compare. My experince at Downtown was excellent. I like the ease and convenience of its location. The staff are friendly as well. I had provided my feedback already before checking out. Overall, everything was good.
I travel to Chicago several times a year and I have to stay this was the best hotel I've ever stayed at. It is modern, clean, quiet and very centrally located. The most impressive thing is the staff. Everyone (from the front desk, to the cleaning ladies, etc.) is extremely helpful, polite (always say "hi"), ... I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!
Loved the breakfast, definitely eat it! Great location to everything in the city. Room was comfortable and whole place was very clean. The lobby set-up. It's too small to handle a large crowd, especially if more than five are waiting to check-in.
Very clean, nice room. Glass door on the bathroom let light in. The bed hurt my husband's back.
The staff was excellent. Everyone was very friendly & helpful, from the front desk to the breakfast staff. Nice room. Nice view of city. Great location to downtown attractions, restaurant, etc. I would stay there again. Minor complaints only. We were staying 4 nights and the room only had 2 tiny drawers for clothes & a small closet. Not a huge deal, but we had to leave a lot of clothes in our suitcases. As I said, the breakfast staff was fabulous, the food, however, was just okay. Weekdays seemed to have more variety, weekend days the choices were extremely limited. They ran out of half & half cream for the coffee after the first day & it was not restocked throughout the rest of our stay.
everything was pretty clean, great service. Better than what I expected highly recommended
We are a young family and this hotel was a great fit for us. Chicago is a very welcoming to families and the staff here was no exception. From the doormen, to the front desk staff, to the dining room manager, everyone doted over our daughter and did everything they could to make sure our stay effortless and enjoyable. The location was great too. Not far from the magnificant mile and adjacent to many restaurants.
Everything !!! None
Very mosey staff not nice also I wood nevertheless stany there agan
The Breakfast Buffet included with the room rate was very good.
Close to Navy Pier and Red line station. South side of building faces main fire station. Sirens and air horns going off all night.
The staff was friendly. The construction noise was terrible. Construction was happening at 7 am on Saturday morning directly outside our window. The breakfast was terrible. I understand it was free, but at least provide decent food. There was only one working elevator.
Good size room. Stayed in dual queen suite with corner sofa sleeper. Enjoyed text alert when room was ready. Prime location. Friendly staff. Solid breakfast. Huge rec center on lower level (basement). Room wasn't cleanest. Stain on comforter up by my neck. Sink was clogged from prior guests. Parking was extra and expensive. Used SpotHero to get lower rate and closer location. Grand Plaza was 1 block.
The hotel is in a great location and the rooms are very spacious. Everything was great!
Clean refurbished rooms, comp. breakfast, included Wi-fi, quick check-in/out accommodating to late night check0in
Close to many restaurants, activities and shopping.
Friendly, curious and helpful staff. One of the best I have encountered. Every hotel staff should model themselves after these professionally.
We only stay at Marriott owned hotels. There is no substitute. Nothing.
Great location, friendly staff and clean rooms The valet parking is much more expensive vs other hotels in the same area and the hotel restaurant is pricey.
Traveled with wife and two young children. Location is great - we walked to Navy Pier, Lincoln Park Zoo, Shedd Aquarium, Magnificent Mile, etc. Had a small pool that the boys enjoyed. Best soundproofing I've experienced with an urban hotel. Staff was unfailingly polite and helpful and very nice to our boys (conversed w/them at check-in, gave them Animal Crackers and bubbles, always opened doors for us). I had fairly high expectations having stayed with this brand numerous times but I was really blown away at the level of service and value on this trip.
Very friendly staff and good lobby & restaurant area Rooms were standard/a bit plain. There was a stain on our couch as well. Extremely noisy outside at night - you'd think your windows are wide open.
Staff was excellent. Tracey got us into our room early so we could drop our bags and run all over the city with the kids. Everyone had such friendly and accommodating attitudes. Wish I could remember a few of the door men's names because they too went above and beyond the call of duty. The accommodations were very nice and appealing. Pool for the kids to hop in and great hot tub after all of the walking we did.
Staff were fantastic. Very helpful and eager to assist.
Well managed - all respects
Valet Parking was $62 a day. Way too much.
Was able to get into my room much earlier than anticipated!
The bed was very comfy and I loved all the feather pillows! It also had a great lounging chair so I didn't have to sit in the bed. The shower had a big shower head which was nice too. My room was directly across from the elevators (also the only room in this location) so I felt a little uneasy as a single woman getting off the elevator and having a large group of people see me go into my room. The room was nice but had a bit of a musty/body odor smell. I got used to it fairly quickly but not a smell you want greeting you! Oh and only one plug outlet by the bed, for a double room I thought this was odd.
Everything about the stay was great. The room was clean, the hotel's location is convenient and there's a train station a couple of blocks away. The complementary breakfast was a no for me. The scrambled eggs were just so awful. The fruit salad was okay but the quality of breakfast really needs some work.
Excellent location, information and facilities. Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfasts delicious and varied with plenty of choice.
The staff was very nice.
close to major interesting area there is a fire station at the next block, too noisy day and night
I thought the decor was wonderful! The bed was one of the most comfortable that I have experienced, and the room was spacious.
Check-in was less than two minutes. Breakfast was fresh and tasty. Everyone was helpful.
Staff very helpful
Front desk staff very helpful in giving transit directions to any place we planned on visiting, where to get some basic groceries, restaurants in the area within walking distance. Breakfast included area not having real cups for tea and coffee and all plastic cutlery.
Friendly staff. Good variety in breakfast. Nice room. Valet parking but $55.00 a day is high!
Close and within walking distance to most places like the Navy Pier, Magnificent Mile, Shopping Malls, Hancock and even to Willis Tower ( little far but if you enjoy walking no problem). Good value for budget-conscious traveller for a hotel located in Downtown Chicago. The bed was a little hard.
Nice staff No black out curtains. Heating system in room took a long time to kick in and warm up the room. Carpet smelled like feet. Room was TINY.
It was an easy check in. The front desk staff offered city maps and directions to nearby attractions. The room was comfortable and clean. The bed was a good quality. The shower was nice and big. The complimentary breakfast had a wide variety which was good for people with different diets. The room was a little on the small side but I was comfortable enough in it. The bathroom did not have a vent so the mirrors got fogged up after a shower. Definitely not a deal breaker. The parking was pricey for valet but you can get your car and bring it back if you want to leave to do something.
Fantastic staff. Super clean and updated while maintaining the building's historical identity.
