Thailand Travel Restrictions

Fully vaccinated visitors from the United States can enter Thailand without restrictions.

For restrictions that apply to vaccinated visitors, please check the official guidelines from Thailand for the types of accepted and permitted COVID-19 vaccinations, requirements on proof of vaccination certificates, vaccination validity period, and persons and/or groups that may be exempt from vaccination restrictions.


Thailand entry details and exceptions

Thailand is open to travelers from any country and territory around the world with entry rules based on vaccination status.

Travelers are required to register online for a Thailand Pass QR Code 3 to 5 days prior to travel.

Travelers with a history of COVID-19 infection who have recovered by medical treatment and travelers who have received at least 1 dose of an approved vaccine after post-infection must have a certificate of COVID-19 recovery.

International travelers must have medical insurance with a minimum coverage of US$10,000 covering treatment and expenses including those related to covid-19 for the total duration of their stay in Thailand.

Proof of confirmed SHA+ or AQ Hotel accommodation for 5-nights, and proof of prepayment for 1 RT-PCR COVID-19 test are required for unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated travelers.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Visitors from the United States are not required to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test or antigen result upon entering Thailand.

Details and exceptions
Negative test results are no longer required to enter Thailand. However, unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers have the option to get tested within 72hrs prior to departure and upload the negative results in the Thailand Travel portal to bypass quarantine. Otherwise, if arriving without a negative test result, traveler needs to book a SHA Plus+ hotel to quarantine for 5 days and submit to RT-PCR test on Day 4-5.
Quarantine requirements

Unvaccinated visitors from the United States will need to quarantine for 5 days upon entering Thailand.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to quarantine.

Details and exceptions
Unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated travelers who are able to upload proof of a negative RT-PCR test within 72 hours of travel via the Thailand Pass system may be exempt from quarantine. Travelers 6 years of age who are travelling with parents are also not required to quarantine.

Documents
The Thailand Pass is a web-based system for Thai and foreign travelers to fill in their travel and health information and upload the related documents before travelling. This system is operational and will replace the COE system on 1 November, 2021. However, the COE will continue to be used for certain groups of travelers.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Travelers returning from Thailand must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) or Antigen (quick-test) test taken within 1 day for RT-PCR (NAAT) and 1 day for Antigen (quick-test) before departure to the United States.

Details and exceptions
Effective:December 6th, 2021: A COVID-19 negative test result taken within 1 day before departure must be presented to the airline before boarding your flight. This applies to ALL incoming air travelers, regardless of vaccination status or nationality.
Children under the age of 2 are exempt from test requirements as well as travelers who have both valid proof or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 in the past 90 days and a letter from a valid healthcare authority who has stated that they are cleared for travel. Refer to the CDC Website for more details.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from Thailand are not required to quarantine upon entering the United States.

Details and exceptions
Foreign nationals (non-U.S. citizens and non-U.S. immigrants) who are not fully vaccinated and are permitted to travel to the US by air by meeting certain vaccine exemptions are required to self quarantine for 7 days, unless they have a valid COVID-19 recovery document.
Travelers should also follow state and local requirements and recommendations after travel.
